A great place to be inspired
As a younger person (27) who has been traveling Brazil on my own for 2 months and seen just over 10 cities, if you’re looking for a fun/quiet stop near the city of Rio de Janeiro, I advise you to check out Itaúna Inn in the city of Saquarema. I found this charming pousada by great fortune. Upon arriving in Saquarema by the 1001 bus, I asked my cab driver to take me to a good, safe place near the beach, and he drove me to Itaúna Inn. I was exhausted from all the traveling, and the receptionist was so friendly and positive and had me in a great little room in a matter of minutes (on a busy weekend, no less). I dropped on the bed and couldn’t believe it when I realized that noise I was hearing in the background was the waves hitting the shore… I had to go check it out, so I walked about 200 steps and was soon sitting on soft, white, fluffy sand with a picturesque and gripping view of the sun setting in the distance, behind the city’s iconic hill-top church, Igreja Nossa Senhora de Nazareth. As the sky grows dark, you get to see the white adobe church illuminate with green light. If that’s not enough reason to stay here for the weekend or a even a week, the prices are quite decent for all that you’re getting, which is a safe, clean, comfortable room, breakfast and coffee, that great view, and immediate access to local restaurants and bars, live music, shops. The receptionist can also quickly hook you up with cool local stuff to do like kite surfing, snorkeling, surfing and flying. What...
Read moreFirstly we made the mistake of booking directly with the guest house. I made the reservation about 2 months in advance of our holiday and was surprised (but had read on their website) that they took 50% of the booking from my credit card within a day of making the booking 50%! Now I know why. We booked the 'special suite' and planned to stay 5 nights. However when we got there we realised we'd made a big mistake. The place stank of sewage and I don't think anyone had stay there since the 1970's. The place was dark, dreary, unclean and very unpleasant. I won't even comment on the bathroom! We told reception we would be leaving the following day. In the morning when we went to check out. The owner, L'Otavio, had 'gone missing' so couldn't process our refund. We hung around for an hour but he never re-appeared. When I emailed to organise the refund he replied, rudely that there was no refund - read the small print! The most unpleasant experience I have every had throughout...
