Stayed here for one night on a recent visit to Melnik. While the family who run the place were all very nice, it was entirely disorganized, making everything from check-in until check-out a bit of chore. On check in, my room had to be rearranged since workers had been in supposedly working on TV. Lamps, chairs, beds, all had to be put back into place. There is a nice deck overlooking the town, but it is not large enough to accommodate all the guest. The three times I checked -- for drinks in the late afternoon, after dinner, and at breakfast -- all tables were full, so I had to get breakfast and drinks elsewhere. On checkout, it took the entire family -- and about 10 minutes -- to make change (and I wasn't using large bills ... they were simply unprepared). My room, 501, was OK, though oddly arranged with a very large chair that made it difficult to get into/out of the bed. Bathroom was large, but didn't have a dedicated shower, so you need to be careful lest everything in the room gets soaked; problem made worse by lack of a bathmat. Wifi was intermittent during my stay; sometimes working,...

Read moreWhat a gem! This place has it all - traditional atmosphere, clean and cosy rooms and absolutely amazing hosts! They are friendly, welcoming and extremely helpful and responsive. It was inspiring to see how knowledgeable and passionate they are about their origin and the historical importance of their region. The young host (whose name unfortunately I didn't take) gave us the best advice on how to maximise our time and get the optimal experience. He'll give you tips and secrets in a very informative and enjoyable manner. If you ever feel like you want to learn more about Melnik and neighbouring towns come and stay at Slavovata Krepost and ask the hosts what's worth to visit. Their local expertise will help you get the most of the place and leave Melnik a lot more cultured and educated. Huge thank you and please continue preserving the spirit of Melnik - Bulgaria needs such dedicated individuals to show how rich in historical and natural...
