OmHome itself is decent, but Sihanoukville and Otres Beach is not nice!! As much as I like to support local businesses, it is not worth spending your time and money staying in this area as there is nothing here! Either just spend one night as a stopover or go straight to the islands.
In regards to OmHome itself, you can tell it was once very pleasant. Yes, the place is very clean and comfortable, but we encountered a couple of issues during our stay: On our first night the roof was leaking, and the water flooded our room and the room below. There were power cuts and most of the day we were without electricity and WiFi. There is a generator but it was not working.
The owner reduced the room rate due to the room flooding, however for the price of the rooms, we would expect a little more during our stay. In our three months of backpacking, it was actually the most expensive place we stayed, but sadly we don't believe it is good value for money. Yes, free coffee and water is included, but I would expect also a continental breakfast.
Regarding the surrounding area (see the photos) Sihanoukville and Otres Beach area has been taken over by Chinese investors and developers. It was once a backpackers seaside paradise, but now most of the nice local guesthouses and restaurants have been bought up by the Chinese who have demolished lots of buildings and turned the place into a rubbish dump. The roads are terrible, full of holes and mud. There is rubbish and filth everywhere, the smell is very bad. The beach is dirty and full of rubbish. There are no good cafes or restaurants around - most of the highly reviewed ones are actually shut down or demolished. The only decent place we found for food was the Sok Sabay Resort and Restaurant. It's a real shame what's happening, and while we would like to support locals, sadly we would not recommend wasting a journey...
Read moreOm Home is a nice place but Otres has changed character in the last few years and I would echo the advice from other recent reviews: if you’re stopping in Sihanoukville on your way to / from an island, it’s worth changing the timing to try to catch your connection earlier.
Om Home itself was a nice place but the rooms are sparse and the ceilings thin: we were on the ground floor and could hear the people above us walking around until 2am. Definitely worth getting a room on the upper floor if you can.
The surrounding neighbourhood is a bit rough these days, many residents have moved out and buildings have been abandoned or demolished. The whole city was planned for heavy foreign development but construction and investment halted with Covid, and most of the new buildings now stand half-finished and abandoned. This part of Otres especially was a creepy area to walk around. Lots of street dogs, lots of rubbish, abandoned unfinished buildings, not many people. I imagine it must have been great here just a few years ago and I feel for the locals.
Many roads have been closed, I guess recently because Google still thinks it’s a few minutes’ walk to the beach from Om Home. It’s actually a long walk around through the abandoned neighbourhood.
I hope this helps. I hate to post a negative review but the 4.7 star rating isn’t right, we felt slightly misled by the other overly...
Read moreWe had high expectations for our 2 night stay at O. Home as we had read the amazing reviews and had some communication with Manon and Vipol before we arrived.||The setting for Om Home is an oasis of calm. The rooms and bungalows are in a very beautiful garden. There is a cool and comfortable communal area where the coffee is always on!||Our room was spacious, comfortable, and airy and spotlessly clean. Lots of attention to detail - plenty of storage space, a fan, and air con.||The bathroom was big and the shower was excellent, lots of hot water.||Manon is the perfect host, totally charming, caring, and helpful. She made some excellent recommendations for dinner and also organised our minibus to Kampot - we were collected from Om Home and dropped at the door of our new guesthouse!||Om Home is a short walk to Otres Beach, which is a long sandy beach with lovely warm water.||We walked for miles along it and then spent a few hours sunbathing and watching the sunset. Very beautiful.||If you are looking to stay in Otres Beach this is definitely the place to go. It was excellent value for money, in a great location close to restaurants and bars but still peaceful. Manon is a very special lady who goes out of her way to ensure guests are looked after.||Thank you...
