This hotel has some work to do if it wants to become 5-star, let alone a 4-star. It seems to have bigger eyes for profit than guest satisfaction - read on for secret VAT / Service Charges!
Firstly, renovation works were taking place over our entire trip. This meant leaving large pieces of roofing on the small pavement making it a hazard for guests to get by.
Breakfast was ok, it was a buffet style breakfast and staff worked hard to replenish it but unfortunately there were a few days were some of the dishes were cold. You could order eggs (scrambled, fried and an omelette).
We had a double room which was lovely and clean. However, the other two rooms in our party had issues. One room did not have a fridge, we asked for one but this was never delivered. The third room had a sink that leaked water all over the floor - people came to fix this but it still leaked. You have to change the sign to get your room cleaned which is fine but if you don’t then you do not even get waters left for you. On two occasions we left hand towels on the floor to get changed, these were taken and never replaced. The beach towels ran out frequently as well.
Can I just say the grounds are immaculate! Whoever the gardener is needs a raise - it was beautiful to see such greenery and flowers every morning.
Onto the restaurant for lunch and dinner! As someone has already said you need to watch what currency you pay with. In every place we went in Cambodia (travelled for 3 weeks) the exchange rate is $1 to 4000 Riel. Some supermarkets will give you $1 to 4100 Riel. At this hotel the exchange rate is $1 to 4200 Riel - this is brilliant if you are paying in dollars but if you only have Riel, you lose out each time. We never came across anywhere else that used this exchange rate and you get all your change in Cambodia Riel as well (that is standard) but you are best not to use it at this hotel. The lunch / dinner menu is overpriced for what it is - we had amazing meals at Bamboo Jam, Sara’s Resort and The One Resort! Try them out instead of eating here because they also do not try and catch you out! This hotel excludes the 10% VAT (everywhere else includes it in the price) and on top of that, they charge a 7% service charge! We got happy hour cocktails (which were very nice) but were charged a service fee - it’s like being in London! We are big tippers and as a family left a tip at every restaurant but this puts you off. I just hope the tip goes to the workers and not the hotel! All the staff work very hard and are extremely kind and friendly - they deserve a tip and it would be interesting to have asked if they receive anything extra each month on top of their wages.
On another note the hotel do not do anything extra for you if you are celebrating a special occasion. It was my brother’s 21st birthday and most hotels provide complimentary ‘bed decoration’. The hotel said it would be $25! For some flowers on the bed!! The One Resort offer this complimentary and so do most hotels when you are paying this sort of price in Asia per night. They said a set up on the beach (a table and some candles) would be $75! It is safe to say we went and celebrated his birthday at The One Resort who decorated the table for us free of charge and wished him Happy Birthday multiple times! Eden did not wish him Happy Birthday once, even though we put balloons in his room. There was not even a card or anything offered. Really disappointing.
We booked a trip through Eden Resort. The boat never turned up and the person at reception had to ‘book another boat’. Whether this was true or he forgot to book it we are not sure but it took over 30 minutes off our boat trip. He never apologised.
A few last comments. The pool is nice. The sun loungers are uncomfortable, you do not get full sun all day because the beach gets shady and the sunsets behind the hotel (not their fault) but they do have too few sun lounger’s for the amount of guests. People from the hotel were going over to the next hotel to use their’s!
For the price you pay, we were...

My partner and I decided to pay a little more (compared to the others hotels in the island) to stay in this hotel for 1 week after reading all the good reviews. The rooms looked cozy and beautiful (and it was), the beach seemed stunning and bassically the place looked perfect to relax and end an amazing trip arround Cambodia… When we arrived everything looks great as we saw in the pictures, the staff was very kind/attentive and the only problem that we had was the weather, because of that, some days we were the only guests in the hotel, what caused that we didn’t have a buffet breakfast, good quality food in our meals (nothing fresh and a dinner with stale beef who they kindly offered to change for another option) and the possibility to enjoy more the beach and activities. Everything was pretty fine tbh, until the last day, when we suffered one of the worst thing that can happen to a traveler… we were robbed.
My partner and I decided to go out to eat at a restaurant on the beach on the last night (we did that because Saracen bay had better restaurants than the restaurant of the hotel, better quality and cheaper), so we were out of the hotel for 2-3 hours. When we got back to the room and went inside, we immediately noticed that someone had entered. We noticed strange things in the order of the room (we know this as a fact, because we are very meticulous when we leave the places) so we immediately checked our valuables in the safety box. When I counted my money, I noticed that $600 dollars WAS MISSING and the feeling of helplessness took over me. And how am I sure of that I didn't lose the money before or that I was robbed before? Because the first day we arrived my partner and I counted our money, in the bed of our room, again, twice, to know that everything was there, our money was complete, so we decide and to put it in the safety box.
The adrenaline took our body and we inmediatly call the manager for support, this is the first time in our life that we have an issue like this. They were always skeptics to believe that someone entered our looked room and open our looked safety box (we believe that some staff was involved, but we don’t have proves). We asked continuously for the CCTVs because they said that they have two, but both were off, so they didn’t do something to help.
That night (the night before leave the island) we felt very bad and sad, we couldn’t sleep because we felt so helpless. Someone violated our privacy and stole money and we didn’t even call the police (We left the country the day after and we didn’t want problems), so they got away with it.
Someone open our room (that was locked with a key) and OPEN the safe deposit box, (that was locked with our password) and stole our money, this is a fact.
The next day, the only thing that we wanted was leave the island. We left with a bitter flavour in our mouth and trying to repeatedly say ourselves that this couldn’t tarnish such an amazing trip that we had. Also we can’t generalize all the kmeers because usually they are great honest people who don’t deserve a bad adjective.
Just wanted to share this to you guys make your opinion about the place and others hotels that you may stay. I tried my best to just...
