I think most other reviews are either fake/bought or left by tourists with little to no experience travelling.
The accommodation side below average. 80$/night for a bungalow. There is a scarcity of accommodation that makes it unavoidable. The bungalows are on the beach so it felt like we had our own piece of it. Shower had a heater but it did not work. The side bed was extremely uncomfortable, mosquito net had holes in it, and was so small you’re basically touching it from all sides which makes it ineffective as mosquitos just bite you through the net. I woke up with a few bites. To be noted that whilst it was clear there was 3 people there, there was no blanket for the small bed (had to request one) and no towel either. Water in the toilet was not working in the morning, could not flush or use the sink or shower.
Receptionist Christian was nice.
The restaurant was a straight up disaster. Over our one day stay, we had many of the dishes on the menu, and every single one of them was not good.
Breakfast: Paradise “Pancake” (quote, because not really a pancake, but rather a crepe) came full of sugar and cheap chocolate sauce, but was probably the least bad item on the menu.
Omelette was tasteless. Came with a side of bread which was overcooked, dried and then toasted which made it crunchier than it ever needed to be.
Fruits plate: The watermelon was fade, closer to whitish pink than red. Did not taste like anything; The mango on the other side was way too ripe and falling apart.
“Homemade Muesli with yoghurt and fruits was bathing in half a bowl of milk. The “homemade” muesli had nothing homemade about it, as it was only oats and a few grains of raisin. Because it was soaked in the mixture of milk/yoghurt, and there was no honey in sight, it tasted fade and bitter.
Banana pancake came and was basically raw, the crepe was barely cooked and so white we could still spot uncooked batter. We had it sent back and a replacement came in which was cooked thoroughly this time but then the banana inside was dried and burned on the side.
Dinner was no better.
Baraccuda amok: Over our 3 weeks in Cambodia, we had multiple versions of the national amok, which is supposed to be a creamy curry, with thickness varying. This amok was so dry when we flipped it upside down it stayed in place. It was literally just a dried up paste. The fish did not taste like anything, and the dried curry only tasted like coconut milk.
Vegetable Khmer Curry: Whilst in actual curry form, you could tell they were short on the required spices as, just like the amok, it only tasted like coconut milk. Nothing special about that dish.
Tom Yum (Shrimp) Right off the bat, you could tell there was way too much oil as there usually is just a few bubbles of oil there and there, but this one was covered in orange like bubbles and oil, so much so you could not see the broth unless you stirred the oil around. Taste wise, it was not spicy at all, and did not even have lemongrass in, and barely any leaves, which made it lack taste. There was also only 4 shrimps in there, which is very stingy when the dish cost almost 10$. Shrimps were also relatively small.
Mango Chicken Wrap: The wrap came with fries, which were still drenched in oil and overcooked. The Wrap itself was no better, with the tortilla so dried up it broke apart the moment I picked up one half. It was also not flipped in a pan and looked straight out of the bag. Inside was way too much cabbage (to make up for the small amount of chicken and mango in there) and there was way too much sauce that covered the taste of the chicken and mango entirely.
We ordered 2 mango juices and they arrived literally one minute later. You could tell it was either not fresh or straight out of a carton box. It tasted bitter and stale.
Overall, the experience was barely worth 2*, and that’s only because the island is so beautiful and the bay is so idyllic you still enjoy your time, that is not down...
Read moreThe location is absolutely beautiful, but ended there for us.
Stayed in Villa 6 Ocean front AC bungalow, walking out of your room directly onto the beach was the best part.
The villa was very run down, smelly, the bed was honestly a concrete slab (they did change the mattress, which was very much appreciated and so kind of them. New mattress was a bit softer.)
The bathroom needed a good disinfectant clean. It smelled like urine the first day. And they do not service rooms.
Other people in our group had villa 7 and it was actually better in terms of cleanliness, but the wood holding the shower was so old and rotten that it fell down one night. Thankfully no one was showering at the time, as it would have been a medical situation for sure.
The restaurant was bad in both food taste and service. It's about a 25 minute walk down the beach to the bustling restaurant/bar area of the bay, so ate a few meals at the accomodation restaurant, due to our own laziness, hoping ordering different things it would be better than the last... The servers were nice enough but in the meals we ate there they got orders wrong every time. Not the end of the world, but it got very frustrating, they need to write orders down. Traditional food was the worst I'd had in a 2 week trip around Cambodia.
The location was good for us, because it is far from the hustle and bustle. But when there are parties up the beach the bass just echoes with constant boom boom until 0300am. Not the property's fault, just an observation.
I was advised I paid an unusually low price for my stay. Approximately $75AUD per night, but honestly that is the high end of what the villa was worth, in my opinion. It seems like there is new construction going on, a d a few villas with hard walls looked to be newer and in better condition. So maybe they are...
Read moreAmazing! Amazing! Amazing! I can't express how much I love this place. It was literally one of the most tranquil, beautiful places I've ever stayed. The beach right outside my room room was pristine and super clean. No trash at all. I say that because not all beaches on the island are nice. Choose carefully where you stay or just stay here. You won't regret it. The staff is very friendly and helpful. You have a choice of different rooms. They have more modern rooms with AC, mid level rooms, and more Khmer style rustic rooms. I opted to stay in the Khmer style room with no AC and an ocean view. I loved it!! Yes, the room is a bit warm in the afternoon, but who cares. Why would I be in my room on such a beautiful island. The weather outside is perfect. At night the fans in the room were more than enough to keep it cool. My only complaint about the rooms is, I think check out should be 11am instead of 10.
The restaurant at the resort is pretty good. They have a lot of nice options, especially for breakfast. They put everything on your tab and you can pay at check out,, which was very convenient. I would like to mention that their portion sizes are big. Personally I feel they should cut their portions down a bit and lower the price. If you walk down the beach towards the main pier, there are restaurants with much better prices and the portions are still big...lol. Maybe its just me, IDK. One quick note about the desert on their menu. They have something called banana cream with liquor. Um, its good, but it basically just pureed bananas. It reminded me of baby food. You might like that kind of thing, but for me it was lacking. I think they should revisit that recipe. It needs some other component.
I highly recommend this place. I will definitely be going back. Just make sure to bring plenty of bug spray...
