Pomeroy Inn & Suites Vermilion — Hotel in Alberta

We stayed here for a fastpitch tournament. I do need you to know that we only booked one room for the Saturday and when the tournament changed we wanted another night (Friday). The hotel had a cancellation so were got the last room ( king bed) for the Friday which was nice room but the bathroom was not great. Once we woke up, we had to check out and come back at 11:00 am to get our new room as they could not keep us in the original room because we only booked it for 1 night. We left to go our game and then came back at 11:00 (which they told us) and the room was not ready. She told me to come back in 1 hour and it might be ready. The person next to me was able to check in which was frustrating as I was there first with an actual reservation and they were able to get a room? I can back 1 hour later after waiting in the parking lot... still nothing so I left my number. She called back and said the room was ready and I asked them if they could help with the price? I got a $15.00 reduction on the rate but when we got into the room it smelled badly of cigarette smoke. We had to spray the whole room with Febreze just to tolerate it. There were no rooms left to no luck on that front. I guess she did what she could. Same shower issue as the head was corroded badly and did not spray properly. My friend always brings a shower head from home..... now I know why. Girls liked the pool and there are fast eats nearby with a couple of gas stations and a liquor store. The place is very beautiful. But we stayed for 3 nights, didn't get new towels, no coffee refill or toilet paper refill. We had to use the room towels for the pool because there were never towels in the pool room. We had to ask the front desk for towels and had to search other floors for the housekeeping cart to ask for toilet paper. We had a double queen room with a kitchen.... there was dirty silverware in the drawer as well. The continental breakfast was not very good... there was no fruit, it took 20 to 30 minutes for hot food to be refilled as well as the waffle mix, and the coffee was not made properly, so it was like water. The lady working the front desk with the purple hair (didn't get her name) was very rude. I witnessed her being extremely rude to staff, and she was not approachable for guests. We did go there during an extremely busy time (the Vermilion Fair) so I can understand the stress that put on the staff.... but I think they didn't plan properly for the circumstances. The kitchen and housekeeping were too short staffed. I'm sure, under a normal scenario the hotel is much better. Booked a two night stay to attend our son’s graduation , phoned ahead to ask for early check in but due to busy season was told not until 3:00 standard check in . Arrived at 2:50 and were abruptly told that room would not be ready for at least 30-45 min when I mentioned we phoned earlier and were told three o’clock which is the standard check in time front desk very nonchalantly said they had oil field workers checking out that are dirty … they were short staffed and that they were at capacity . Not sure why that information was relevant to relay to us . We returned at 3:50 room was ready and were informed rooms are only cleaned every three days and if we wanted housekeeping during our stay we would have to phone before 11:00 am to see if we could get housekeeping ? Never in all of our years have we had no housekeeping … rude staff at pool area … never anyone at front desk and had to hunt down housekeeping for more coffee and then told to go to front desk for more towels . Not a fan of writing negative reviews but we would definitely not stay here . We felt like an inconvenience from start to end and coming from the hospitality industry ourselves we are...
