We didn’t actually stay at the G.M. L., I would 1000% recommend it based on the phenomenal treatment we received as random, non-paying travellers.
On our way to Barrier, we ended up semi-stranded in the Glacier Lodge parking lot due to engine issues. I explained that we needed either a tow to into Clearwater (35 kms away), or someone to try to boost us, so that we could limp to Clearwater on our own, and save $$$.
The person at the front desk (possibly the manager) used his own truck to boost our battery for 45 minutes, to hopefully give us enough juice to avoid a costly towing. Blue River is so tiny (it’s little more than a spec on the map), that its retail businesses & service centers are are extremely limited, and/or don’t excist. however, it has access to excellent mountains for skiing & hiking.
In authentic, “Good Samaritan” form, he would not take any money to cover the gas used while his massive, (likely gas guzzling) truck ran for 45 + minutes. Then when we tossed around the idea of staying there for the night & getting it towed first thing tomorrow morning, he advised us it would be much cheaper to try to limp to Clearwater because they have a decent towing/mechanic shop that won’t screw us, & will charge a fair price. If I ever had to stay in Blue River, I would absolutely be staying at the Glacier...
Read moreI stayed at the Glacier Mountain Lodge and overall had a pleasant experience. The bed was very comfortable, the A/C worked great, and I really appreciated the Tyneham bath products they provided. The room was clean, although the furniture was dated — most pieces were in decent condition, but the coffee table could have used a fresh coat of paint to cover noticeable wear and tear.
The outside sitting area offered a nice view, even with the highway nearby, though it wasn’t ideal having smokers use the same space. There’s no on-site restaurant, but the Grizzly Food Shack next door served excellent food. The included continental breakfast was disappointing, especially with no protein options, but you could purchase a much better breakfast at the Grizzly Shack.
The price felt a bit high, but still more affordable than staying in Valemount or Jasper. Overall, a clean and comfortable place to stay with friendly touches, but some areas could use...
Read moreThis hotel is a great place for a quick stopover. We stayed in a two-queen and one-double room, which was spacious enough for our family. However, the AC unit was positioned directly near one of the queen beds, leading to uncomfortable sleeping as the air didn't circulate well throughout the room. We also noticed the shower curtain had an odor, suggesting it wasn't cleaned thoroughly. On the positive side, the staff were friendly, and parking was easy, especially since we were on the first floor. Breakfast was included, though it didn't feature hot options. The location boasts a good shack nearby where we had a surprisingly delicious burger with great fries. Plus, having a gas station close by and a convenience/liquor store across the street was...
