My partner and I were part of the domino effect of Westjet cancellations over the holiday season. We were flown in on a connection from Kelowna to Halifax, and were stranded in Edmonton due to Westjet's staffing issues from the 19th to the 27th. The airport was chaos and there were so many angry and defeated people. Many others in a situation of being stranded, much like our own. On the shuttle to the hotel, we met another traveler in our situation. This is important, because of what happened at 3AM when we arrived at the hotel. We were third in line when we were all informed by the Front Desk Agent (Shaun) that there was only one room left available. The stranger we met on the shuttle, Josephine was the first in line. She asked Shaun how many beds the room had, and thankfully it had 2. She offered my partner and I to stay with her for the night to avoid catching the shuttle back to the airport, and having to sleep there. Typically, I'm not the type to sleep in a room with a stranger - and I now know she wasn't that type either, but thankfully we were all in the wrong place at the right time. *I must add that Shaun also found a solution for the second gentleman in line, however he was lucky enough to have been able to make alternative arrangements. Shaun then informed us that this room had just been checked out of, and that he would personally head up to clean it - because there was no housekeeping staff on at this hour. He joked that he wasn't a good housekeeper - but he did a flawless job and we were so grateful. The next day we headed down to Johnathan's Lounge for a much needed meal and drink. This is where we met Lesa, who is a bartender and server in the lounge. I immediately saw the love and respect she receives from patrons and staff alike. Lesa became such an integral part of our day - and the reason for so many of my smiles. She was there every day we were, with the exception of when the lounge was closed on Christmas Day. I'm glad Lesa was able to catch a break from tirelessly running between tables, the VLT's, the bar and the kitchen. This was a crazy time and the lounge was so busy, but she spreads happiness and kindness like confetti and it sticks like glitter. There were lots of stranded passengers and Lesa was a large part in relieving stress with a laugh, joke, smile, funny face, jig or a dance. Seriously, if you get a chance to be around Lesa - do it. It is to be mentioned that the front desk ladies were always so professional, happy and quick to help with any needs, the gentleman with glasses who is often cleaning common areas and the other cleaning staff keep this hotel pristine, the staff in O'Brian's in the morning were always so refreshing and sweet. The food at both O'Brian's and Johnathan's was phenomenal and we truly tried to eat through the menu. Every meal we had between both restaurants was absolutely phenomenal. All staff that we had the pleasure to interact with were all truly something for Best Western Premier Durham Inn & Suites to be proud...
Read moreWe felt like guests in their home! From the moment we called the hotel to arrange for a shuttle pick up to the moment we checked out of the hotel property we were made to feel like family. Dailany, who checked us in was our first introduction to what we could expect while staying at the property. We were welcomed with a smile, thanked for being an Elite member, welcomed as our first time staying with them and you could tell that she was being genuine in her conversation with us. In fact Dailany, Hazel & Brahm all were the same in every interaction, not only with us but with other guests as well. One of the cool features that this hotel uses is text messaging with their guests. The first one is checking in with you shortly after you check in to ensure that you are satisfied with your room giving you the opportunity to raise any concerns immediately with the staff if necessary and allowing them the opportunity to Wow you with how they deal with the situation. Do you need extra amenities, a wake up call, arrange for a shuttle back to the airport? All of these things can be done via text. If you don’t like to text that is okay too as you can always reach the front desk via your in room phone. As a person who travels a lot for work and leisure, I have stayed at many different properties and with many different chains and I have to say that honestly, the service that we received from the staff at this hotel is something that every hotel should strive to provide to their guests. ||If you are looking to shop, this is a great location with Costco and multiple malls including the discount outlet near by. You can ship your purchases home with the Cargo services that are only 10 minutes away and there is ample dining options within walking distance of the property. There is also a liquor store only 2 blocks away from the hotel as well. The neighbourhood was quiet, safe, great for going on a walk and welcoming. We look forward to our next visit to Edmonton and seeing all these wonderful people at the Best Western Premier Denham...
Read moreBooked this hotel for my wedding and it was a full on disaster we book it well about 6 to 8 months in advance getting a block off rooms, we requested the bride and groom have the biggest room avaliable and they put us in one if the smallest rooms they had. Other family members and friends had rooms that were 3x the size. We were going to use that room for the bride and brides maids to get ready. Fortunately one of the brides maids ended up getting a big room so we migrated there, but thats not the point. Another thing everybody was all over the hotel, you would think when you get 8 rooms blocked off you'd be able to get one whole floor or all the rooms on the same floor at least. Nope not at this hotel. Everyone on diffrent levels and different parts of the hotel (there are to sides to the hotel, make sure when your booking to request the tower thats where the big rooms are and you get charged the same price might as well just get the bigger room for the same price) thus hotel is sneaky and greasy with there pricing. As well as having a hockey tournament share the same floor as some of our guests, and the kids were playing in the hall way being louder than a bridal party was. Unacceptable. Needless to say im not to happy with our expirence here as a big party that brought in at least 15 to 20 rooms worth of buissness, absolutely not acceptable the way the hotel handles big party's. We hope that best western can learn from this experience. Please do better and realize that big party's the request rooms blocked off want them on the same floor. And when you specifically request the biggest room avaliable, dont...
