The George Dawson Inn — Hotel in Dawson Creek

I will start by saying that we stay in DC each year at the same time. They’re all equally as expensive and a terrible rip off for what they are and what the town has to offer. We have stayed at almost every hotel in DC and this one was the absolute worst. I always make sure that we can reserve a room with a pull out couch for our daughter to sleep on in a separated area so she is able to go to sleep at a normal time while allowing the adults to also go to sleep at a normal time. I called almost two months in advance and found a room that was perfect for us. The front desk was kind enough to go into the room to make sure it was the correct one as they don’t have many of them. I then gave them my CC and reserved the room for two nights. We arrived at the hotel and they have let me know that our room has been given away and has been in use for a month and will continue to be used. I was mad. I was super nice to the front desk lady as it was not her fault but I was mad. She then tells me they can give me a free dinner and a discount on the room. I tell her that is fine and all but we now don’t have a space for our daughter to sleep. The room didn’t even have a pull out couch. They basically told me that even though I did everything in my power to secure the hotel room we needed that they don’t hold true to their reservations and that we’re screwed. We were never given a free dinner and were offered $22 off our entire stay. I was disgusted. To top it off the reviews on this hotel give it a “don’t judge a book by its cover” feel. DO judge this book by its cover. The hotel was absolutely disgusting. Stained. Stunk. Our bathtub didn’t plug didn’t close. And then it clearly needs to be cleaned because the water would pool around your ankles when you had a shower. The furniture was disgusting and I didn’t want to touch any of it to my bare skin. I made sure we all slept fully clothed each night. We didn’t pull the sheets down to sleep under the covers. None of the coffee lids fit the cups in the room nor the lobby. Spilled coffee everywhere. To top off our horrible stay I was woken up by loud yelling at 3am to look outside and see the cops taking some character into their vehicle. They allowed him to scream and yell with their door open. Then the ambulance came and more chaos ensued. This hotel has its normal rig workers in it but also seemed to cater to junkies. I honestly was horrified and hated that we had no other option while with our child. The front desk girl claimed to have pull within the hotel but clearly didn’t and was zero help in the end. She was polite but didn’t seem concerned with any of my concerns. The one positive about this hotel is the breakfast. The waitress was extremely polite and very nice. Food was good. But not good enough to have me ever stay again. DC is an absolute hole of a town and it would be wonderful if they had a few hotels that weren’t absolutely disgusting. My experience with this hotel was strange and annoying. I booked a couple months prior through Expedia. A couple weeks later, I get an email telling me the hotel couldn't honor my rate. I replied to the email so Expedia could help me get something else. Before they can, I get another email (like 2 days later) saying they can honour my room. Ok, whatever. About 3 or 4 days before we're set to arrive, I get another email that had the subject line "The George Dawson Inn has a message for you" but the email is completely blank. So I call them a day later to make sure everything is ok. I'm told they have my reservation and everything is fine. The day we are to arrive, I get two phone calls (the first one went to voicemail) asking if I'm still coming. I've never had a hotel call me the day I'm set to arrive and I find it especially weird because I basically called to confirm 2 days prior. Anyway, I tell them yes. We get there and I'm told they don't have the room I booked (2 beds plus 1 sofa bed) so they are putting us in a different room two beds and a cot. Apparently someone extended their stay and it would be annoying to have to move them (or something like that). They tell me it's the same size but the way the room was laid out, there was no way that you could fit a sofa in the room. So I'm sure it was a smaller room and they told me that normally they charge $25 for a cot and they were giving it to me for free. Like somehow I'm supposed to thank them?

Anyway, other than the room probably being smaller than I booked, it was fine (clean and comfy). The AC unit was really loud and never cut out unless we turned it off, but that's fairly typical for hotel AC units. The free breakfast was also fine (although limited options) except the server screwed up my wife's and son's order and asked if it was ok to charge us more for the extra meat she brought us that we didn't order (we didn't) and basically told my wife she was won't when we pointed out that want what we ordered.

So I'm annoyed with not getting the room we paid for and the breakfast mess up was annoying, but otherwise I guess they were accommodating as best they could under the circumstances? Whatever, I'll give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm annoyed with hotels doing this bait and switch...

Amazing Inn! Absolutely loved our stay and will return as needed.

We came in extremely late around 2am from a very long 15 hour trip, almost to our destination but not quite since we started having car troubles, they were great with both myself and my grouchy littles 💕

Complimentary breakfast was amazing, from the in house restaurant, the staff there were also very sweet.

The manager was amazing! She was able to provide us with a later checkout so my babies could get more then a few hours sleep. She also provided me info for a good shop in town who manged to squeeze us in the day before Christmas eve!

We had such a long and scary drive just trying to get to family before Christmas eve as it was the first one we would have without my late brothers. We had so many issues not only with the roads but also with the vehicle, it was comforting knowing that not only could we take a much needed break but we could do so with such a kind staffing unit 💕

I would recommend this Inn to anyone in need without hesitation.

I travel a great deal and come across many people, I've stayed in hundreds of hotels but I cannot say enough good things about this place.
