Hampton Inn – July Stay (5 Nights) Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2.5/5)
We stayed at the Hampton Inn for five nights in July, opting for a higher-floor room specifically to get access to a microwave. Overall, the stay was decent but not memorable.
As a frequent guest at Hilton properties, this particular hotel unfortunately did not meet the expectations typically associated with the brand.
Room Experience
The room felt smaller than expected, and the microwave—while appreciated—seemed awkwardly placed, occupying valuable table space.
There was no proper closet; instead, a single sliding door alternated between covering the bathroom and a small cupboard with a safe. This setup felt impractical, especially for families.
No lock on the bathroom door, which was inconvenient given we were traveling as a family. This is something guests may now want to check in advance before booking.
The bathtub was slippery and poorly designed, lacking any grip or support. We had to be extra cautious when using it.
Housekeeping was minimal. In five nights, our room was serviced only twice, and even then, it felt like the bed was simply straightened (which we had already done) and towels replaced. Carpets didn’t feel clean, and body wash wasn’t refilled—we had to call for it ourselves.
Limited trash space, especially for a group of four eating one meal daily in the room.
Pillow quality was poor. They were extremely soft and lacked firmness, leading to neck and head discomfort for most of us. Interestingly, we noticed several other guests checking out with their own pillows—likely for the same reason. Tip: bring your own pillow if you need good neck support.
No complimentary bottled water provided in the room, and they expect you to drink out of the tap.
The breakfast juices (apple and orange) were overly diluted, tasting more like flavored water than actual juice. This significantly reduced the overall breakfast experience and definitely needs improvement.
Amenities & Service
Pros:
The hotel premises, including the room and bathroom, were well-maintained.
Breakfast was a good —fresh waffles daily, a good variety of items, and decent quality. However, it’s advisable to come early as items begin to run out around 9:00–9:30 AM. The two women managing the breakfast area were hardworking and attentive. A friendly smile would have gone a long way, especially in the hospitality industry, but their effort was commendable.
Prompt front-desk and housekeeping response: They were quick to deliver dental kits and additional trash bags when requested. Unfortunately, they confirmed they do not stock firmer pillows.
Room was stocked with extra blankets and pillows.
24/7 coffee available in the lobby was a nice touch.
The pool and gym appeared clean and well maintained, although we skipped the pool due to a strong chlorine odor that extended into the nearby hallway.
Plenty of free parking on site—very convenient and it was not bad to drive to the city if you have your own car. Remember the room rates are better here because you choose to stay away from the main city and chaos.
Nearby amenities**: Tim Hortons, Walmart, and a well-rated café across the road for pastries.
Final Thoughts & Recommendations
While there were some positive aspects to our stay, the comfort and in-room experience fell short, particularly in terms of cleanliness, pillow quality, and bathroom design. For a brand like Hilton, more attention to these details is expected. The staff were generally responsive, and the location is convenient, but future guests—especially families—may want to consider these limitations before booking.
Recommendations to the hotel:
Add bathroom door locks for guest privacy. Provide firmer pillow options. Improve housekeeping consistency. Enhance storage space in rooms. Include complimentary bottled water.
With a few thoughtful improvements, this property could offer a far more comfortable and...
Read moreRacist! The morning breakfast team manager was Racist. He was mean, rude, and embarrassed me infront of the other hotel guest. I was at this location a few weeks ago. Traveling home from New brunswick. Going to New brunswick I stayed here too and both times this man was horrible! All I asked for was a tray to put our breakfast on, so I could carry it up to our room. Which I was told I could do upon check-in. Apparently that's a big problem for this man. I remember standing by the waffle station waiting for our waffles with my 7 year old daughter beside me. When he raised his voice and crossed his arms and said among other things " .... NO TRAY!.." I stood there for a moment thinking, why is he so angry? He went to kitchen and returned back with 1 take - out container. I looked at the container thinking how do I fit breakfast for 2 in this? He sees my daughter standing beside me or at this point hiding becauseof his behavior. So I went to the front desk and spoke with Delphine about what just happened and returned back to pick up our waffles. She eventually came and apologized, gave me the tray to put our breakfast on. After that he stood in the breakfast area watching everything I put on the tray. Giving me dirty looks. Giving my daughter looks of disgust. My daughter was so uncomfortable she kept trying to hide under my arm as I selected foods for our breakfast. I couldn't believe it. Other guests didn't seem overly comfortable in this breakfast station either. I don’t know if it was because of what happened. Infact no one seemed impressed with the bacon and eggs. The station area is tight. Compared to other hotels in this price range it's below average. Sorry but it's true. All we had for our breakfast was waffles for the both of us, 1 apple, 1 orange, 1 yogurt and 2 drinks. I stood in the elevator at the end of all this holding the tray trying to hold back my tears. I couldn't believe what just happened. My daughter looked up at me and I remember her asking me "...Moma why are...
Read moreIf you're planning on sleeping past 6:00am on a weekday, I've some tips for you. Make very sure you request the front desk gives you a room on the south side of the building. At 6:00am on the North side... there's some construction workers yelling very loudly and guessing by the sounds.... angrily throwing metal cymbals or beams at construction bobcat trying to backup through an obstacle course with the corresponding beeps played through a megaphone. I mean.. I could just be regular construction but holy heck... its really loud and early.
Why I'm even mentioning this is... the hotel was virtually empty. So.. why would the front desk staff place my family (young kids, and grandparent) in 2 rooms on the construction side of an empty hotel?
I've racked my brain on this... it's just apathy. Pure.. " eh... who cares?" on their part.
Awesome customer service would be " Sir, there's many rooms to choose from, may I recommend we put you and your family in some rooms on the south side , to avoid the constriction noise we've been experiences these last few weeks" That type of customer service is not this hotel.
So, you're booking it for the pool? you're in luck... it's a sauna and pool in one big open room. If you want to sit poolside and watch the kids splash about.. dress in a speedo. It's gotta be 40 Celsius in the pool area.
Oh.. and the free breakfast. Yes... they have one and yes it's free. I mean the dry goods stuff is on par. Perhaps it was the same kitchen staff there all 3 of our mornings who thought scrambled eggs are best as chalky as possible. To counter the chalky eggs, you can wash it down with disturbingly greasy paper thin bacon. stick to the toast, cereal and coffee.
Now.. immediately below my review will probably be some cut & paste management response saying " we try" or "we value" blah blah blah. I raised all these issues with the front desk (Sarah) and manager ( Maggie). Nothing. No response. Perfect...
