We travelled to Quebec during March Break and stayed at 3 different hotels, at 3 different price points, with Le Grand Lodge being the priciest of the 3. I had higher expectations given the reviews I had read (and the price). |I had emailed ahead of time asking if anything could be done for my daughter as we were arriving on her 6th birthday. I was told I could purchase a box of chocolate or wine to be left in the room upon our arrival (this was before they knew she was turning 6). There was some miscommunication so nothing was done until I arrived for check-in. But they graciously offered to run a little bag with a box of candies that I had purchased into the room before we went in. My daughter was so surprised and kept asking how the hotel knew it was her birthday!|Only 1 elevator was working while we were there, but luckily it was never too busy for our group when we were coming and going. Departure day was a whole different story. |When we entered our suite, we were a little underwhelmed. The suite seems VERY dated, and not in the rustic, charming way. The door opens right into the kitchen, with nowhere to put your boots or coats. So we had to trample through the kitchen (in our wet, muddy shoes and boots) and into the living area before we could find a closet to hang up all our winter gear. The kitchen is well stocked with dishes and cutlery and a toaster and Nespresso coffee machine There are 2 bathrooms in the suite, which is very convenient for our family of 5. The bedroom boasts a king bed that takes up most of the room, and a little ensuite. The living room area is quite large, with a TV on top of the fireplace making it very cozy. The balcony overlooks the lake and it was a beautiful view. |The shuttle to and from The Village is amazing. We had to take public transit back to the hotel because we had taken the last shuttle of the day - but public transit is free and so easy to navigate. Just be advised that the bus comes every 20-30 minutes. When we got back from our little adventure, we decided to take a swim at the pool. You have to swipe into the change rooms in order to access the gym and pool. They provide towels and life jackets for the kids, so that was a huge bonus. The pool area is a little outdated as well - tiles are chipped and cracked, but it served its purpose and entertained the kids. There is a large hot tub at the side that we took advantage of as well. The biggest shock and disappointment came with the shower afterwards. The website specifically states: "Tip: At the pool, we have showers with hair dryers and towels that you can use after your activities to freshen up before heading home." There are 2 shower stalls - 1 had no soap dispenser and both only had cold water. We were hoping to have a full shower before going back to our room to drop off our gear and then have dinner. I didn't realize there wouldn't be any shampoo or adequate hot water! I had to bathe my daughter in luke-warm water - that eventually turned cold. She was screaming when I was trying to rinse out her hair. I didn't bother showering since it was frigid by the time it was my turn, so I embraced the hot water in our suite along with the full range of toiletries. |By the time we were ready to eat it was VERY late so our only option was the bar in the lobby (no restaurants would deliver to the hotel, even when we tried to order at 6pm). Our server was slammed, as everyone had the same idea to eat there that night. He was bartender, server, and runner all in one - and busboy too. Despite it all, he was efficient and still provided great service. We had asked if he had any dessert options and possibly a candle since it was daughter's birthday. He called to the main restaurant to check and brought out a huge slice of chocolate cake with a sparkler on it. My daughter was so shocked and happy. He comped the cake for us, which was very much appreciated. |The bar experience definitely made up for a few of the other areas that were lacking for us. But I'm not sure if we will be staying here again if...
Read moreThis hotel is a beautiful log cabin, with a private beach on stunning Lac Ouimet. We had booked a suite at lake level for two nights, for myself, my dog, and an elderly relative who uses a rollator to walk. Because of my relative's mobility challenges, our plan was to dine and eat breakfast at the hotel's restaurant.||The good: |The view of the lake is magnificent, the beach is well kept and seems perfect for those who enjoy swimming and paddling. The building's exterior is very attractive, the architecture is quite rustic and fits nicely with the surroundings. The rooms are well soundproofed. The breakfast buffet is decent, but at CAD$26/person, not cheap.||The bad: |There is a road between the hotel and the beach - not quite safe to let kids run around unsupervised near the road. The inside of the building needs a serious and extensive make-over. The suite was old, tired, unattractive, and not very comfortable. It was a nice size, with a living room, bedroom, kitchenette and two bathrooms. BUT, for CAD$350/night (incl dog fee and taxes), we were expecting much better. The furniture was old and tired, the couch uncomfortable to sit on, the table and chairs scratched and worn, the carpet old and dirty (remember, dogs are allowed...), the tile floor in the kitchen and bathrooms looked grungy, the shower was clean-ish, the paint on the walls was dark grey and in need of a new coat (and lighter colour). No lamps - only harsh, bright ceiling lighting. Burnt lightbulb in the bathroom. No "luxuries" like kleenex or a hair dryer... The pictures on the website show a similar suite - and it looks very nice. But take away the pillows and cushions and the little "arrangement" on the bathroom countertop... It felt neglected and utilitarian, not welcoming. Again - not worth $350...||The ugly: |Dinner at the Whisky Bar! Good grief... the website says "Discover our high-end bistro cuisine...". Nothing could be further from the truth. A very limited menu, printed on an old white paper card, delivered by an unenthusiastic employee, showed a few choices, that were each less appealing that the one above. We ended up choosing the mushroom ravioli, and the pepperoni and cheese pizza, neither of which was good. In fact, both were terrible... The "rustic setting" of the restaurant means big thick wooden tables and hard wooden chairs with thin padding that is designed to make customers want to leave quickly. No table cloths or place mats. Utensils and paper napkins are offered in a tall glass placed on the table. Service is... basic. Our meal (ravioli, small pizza and a ginger ale) cost $66 -- taxes and a 15% tip already included. The tip was not optional. ||Ultimately, we left after a single night (even though I had booked and paid for two). It just was not worth it... ||This hotel is "nice from afar, but far from nice". I saw many families who appeared to have a good time, but we didn't see them at the restaurant. ||If I'd paid CAD$150/night, I'd think, "well, sure, it was worth about that." But we paid more than twice that, and saw pictures on the website that were not representative of reality....
Read moreGrand luxury suite was absolutely perfect in every way!!! Extremely clean, full kitchen with fridge, stove, built in microwave, dishwasher, toaster , Beautiful pots and pans nice and modern cutlery and dishes.(just need to bring a large knife if you need) Lots of cupboard space. We had two bathrooms, One had a very large shower, The other had a very nice modern tub with showerhead on top, and both bathrooms also had a heat lights that you could adjust the timing, Nice bonus! The size of the bathrooms are very small but absolutely sufficient, you’re not having a party in there. Also they are totally up-to-date and modern. There’s a beautiful stone fireplace in the living room area gas fireplace, flat screen TV, A beautiful deck. The bedroom has A very comfortable king size bed with very soft sheets, and side by side door too close for privacy in the bedroom if you want. The Lakeview with the mountains is absolutely spectacular to look at. All the Staff were extremely nice and helpful and polite!!!!! They are following extremely strong protocols!!!! You will be sent an email two days before your arrival date , and it is important to read the protocols on this email so that you totally understand what to expect and not to be upset about anything. Every single thing in the kitchen other than the pots and pans are in the dishwasher, when we arrived everything in the dishwasher was still warm. There is no housekeeping service once you go into your room , because of Covid they don’t want anyone in your room and of course you wouldn’t want anyone in your room, if for any reason you need anything just ask and they will give it to you. They have room service for breakfast which is very nice, or if you like you can go down they also have a dining room for supper, Which is good, but just warning you it’s like fine dining in the way that dinner is served from start to finish two hours long. They have parking in front of the lodge for 15 minutes for when you arrive and unload your car and same for when you leave, there is a large parking lot right across the street, absolutely no problem at all. Also they have canoes kayaks and paddle boats that are complementary, Lots of really nice lounge chairs and Upright chairs all along the water. They also rent mountain bikes including bikes for kids and helmets for everyone that can be rented for two hours or the day. They have a beautiful large inground pool with chairs around it and also a whirlpool. It really is a very beautiful place to stay, The rooms are perfectly quiet. I have seen some negative reviews for different things which I didn’t experience at all, so all I can say is if ever anyone does have an issue with anything , they should just tell someone at the front desk nicely, and I’m sure they will accommodate you to fix whatever the issue may be. We had an absolutely wonderful time, and plan on going back many times again in the future!!!! ( Btw, it is literally an eight minute drive to Mont...
