After nearly 15 hours on the road, we arrived at the BWP Edmundston where we had specifically booked main floor accommodations with “Parking In Front Of Room”, so it was easier to bring our bags inside. We had already completed the “pre-check-in” process earlier in the day. We got our room key easily and drove around the building to our designated room and parking spot. We found that someone else was already parked in our numbered spot, so we headed back into the desk to let them know. The clerk said that they don’t keep track of guests’ car information, so they didn’t know whose car it was. Odd, given that the pre-check-in process required me to supply my vehicle’s make, model, and plate number. So, either she was incorrect, or they collect that information for seemingly no purpose whatsoever. I asked if we could be moved one room over, a room which had its parking spot available. She said no one had checked into that room yet, but that she couldn’t switch me. She said that I should find a parking spot somewhere else on the property. Having already been around the lot, I knew that the only spots were on the other side of the complex, nowhere near our room, defeating the purpose of booking a drive-up room. I pointed this out. She said she had a room on the other side of the hall she could put us in that had direct parking. She gave no indication that the room was any different. She said the room rate would not change (why would it?). When we opened the door to our room, we found that it was not the newer, updated room we booked based on the website advertising, it was a dated 70s look. At least it had two beds. At this point what could we do? Based on their site it looks like they’re calling it a “mini suite” but it has the same number of beds, space, and amenities as the regular 2-bed rooms. The only difference I think I can spot in the photos is the useless pocket door that can cut the tiny entryway off from the main room, though the ‘regular’ rooms may have that too. When we turned on the ceiling light it strobed like a nightclub. The tv reception was poor with bars of discolouration running across it on every station. I did go to the front desk to ask for a replacement lightbulb only to be told that was a “maintenance request” and they couldn’t get me a new one until the next day, you know, after we had checked out. The clerk suggested that we just not use the light in our room, I assume so we wouldn’t see it blinking. I was taken aback. As someone who worked in a hotel for a number of years as both a housekeeper and a front desk clerk, at a Best Western at that, I’m shocked that they would be unable to access a supply room that had spare lightbulbs, and that they would provide that message in the tone it was delivered. I think that was the point at which I decided that I would not stay here again, should I be in the area. After spending some time in our room, I also noticed the bed’s coverlet was stained, there was hair in the tub (number one housekeeping no-no), and there was tacky soap scum both on the shower shelf and the tub floor. Yuck. Yes, I have photo/video of these issues however there doesn’t seem to be an upload option here. The breakfast was the usual selection included at hotels. No complaint. The lobby was nicely decorated and clean, and had 24hr coffee if that’s your thing. I recommend that you drive the extra 40 minutes over to Grand Falls (or stop your travel 40 minutes earlier) and stay at their BWP instead. We had no issues there when we stayed a night there later in...
Read moreWhen my bf and I stayed in June 2025, we couldn't say enough nice things about this place. It was a great bed, good pillows, renovated and a beautiful bathroom...so that experience brought us back...well last night/today has been a 180...
Not only was it $100 more a night to stay here this round but check in was a nightmare. First we tried to check in on the app and somehow it declined our card and cancelled our room altogether. So we "called" the hotel, I say that lightly, as we got sent around a switch board/call center and after 20 mins re reserved our room. We get to the hotel, we say, here's our credit card for incidentals but we want to pay with visa debit. Nope...she run the credit card and claims it's declined. So we explain again so she says no, we must pay with cash. We said split the total between the credit card and use cash...well she rang the split tenders in wrong and still insisted we had to use cash. The ATM machine in the lobby crashed out..charged the bfs card yet didn't depense any money. Instead of the receptionist refunding her own mistakes and starting over...the manger and her made us leave the hotel and go get cash from a gas station which also charged us. At this point I waited in the car when we came back as I insisted we should just go to the comfort inn..but no my bf insisted our stay was sooo good in June that we stay here last night.
So after check in...we go to find out room, our guaranteed parking spot to our room is taking by a different guest. My bf by chance found the guest and got them to move their car. After all, this room was $340 for the night...we paid for the spot in front of it.
The room...sigh ...wow....talk about disappointing. The bed was garbage. Certainly not the nice one we had on the 3rd floor. Terrible lighting. Small TV. Outdated bathroom that was only kinda clean...the pillows were lumpy and uncomfortable. The bathroom is tiny and not wheelchair friendly. The shower was smaller than what you would find in a standard house and grimy looking. Our room before had a beautiful walk in glass shower that was wheel chair friendly.
Overall...terrible. I personally won't be back. This was not a typical experience with a BEST Western but it's too expensive to risk it again at this location. I don't feel rested at all and I still have a long drive to Toronto.
Edit to add...somehow it goes worse at breakfast. Tiny tiny tiny dining area. No available ketchup. Raw/uncooked potatoes. Sausages sitting on grease...like a lot.
The most appalling thing was watching the breakfast attendant go up to a table , offer to clear their dishes and asked for a DONATION..so a tip. Pay your staff a living wage and they wouldn't have to bum tips and you would have cleaners wanting to...
Read moreMy husband and I stayed at the Best Western Plus for one night on the way back from the east coast of Canada. Our stay was incredibly restful and stress-free. Although the hotel was fully booked, it was surprisingly quiet. The hotel looks just like the photos. The lobby is lovely and stylish, giving a great first impression. The pool area was a nice bonus, although we did not use it. ||The hotel was rather glamourous. We stayed in an Executive King on an upper floor which overlooked the parking lot. The room was spacious and thoughtfully designed. The bedside tables had convenient phone charging ports, and there were plenty of drawers for storage and a full length mirror. There was a screened sliding door that opened to let in some fresh air. Lighting throughout the room was excellent. The bathroom amenities were lovely, and the addition of a stool and an illuminated magnifying mirror was a helpful touch. We appreciated the mini-fridge with a small freezer section.||The included hotel breakfast offered a wide variety of options from ham, sausages, eggs and potatoes to cereal, muffins, yogurt, toast and a fun pancake machine. Staff were attentive, constantly restocking items and keeping the area clean. The breakfast area filled up quickly with guests overflowing into the lobby.||Room for improvement would be at check-in. There was only one staff member handling everything on their own. During busier times, it would be helpful to have at least two people at the front desk. Additionally, although we had already submitted a copy of a driver's license during the pre-check in process, we were asked to provide it again upon arrival. I was uncomfortable providing this information during the pre-check in process and would like to know what happens to that personal information after our stay. All in all, we would...
