Riverview Motel — Hotel in Ontario

RUN! This place is absolutely disgusting.

I wanted to cancel my reservation because the state of the room we were given made my skin crawl. I had to give a reason to booking.com so I was honest and said the room was filthy, there were bed bugs on the mattress and it stunk of cigarette smoke. The owner then refused to give me my refund until I lied and told booking.com to change my reason to just not wanting to be there. He screamed at me in the office, pointed and waved his hands around aggressively and slammed the door several times. As soon as I changed my reason and he got proof, he released the refund.

The representative from booking.com was on speaker while the owner screamed at me and she told me she was shocked at his behaviour and she was worried for my safety.

I later called booking.com back and told them I would like to file a formal complaint about the motel and they have started that investigation.

The room stunk of cigarette smoke even though it said non-smoking right on the door.

There were stains, chunks of who knows what and questionable marks all over the walls. The floor hadn’t been cleaned. The bedding is SO old and terrible quality.

I pulled back all of the disgusting bedding and the mattress had bed bugs!

There was no ventilation and the AC unit was not in working order.

The bathroom was filthy and was something out of a horror movie.

The owner is rude, aggressive, openly sexist and has no idea how to run a motel. He manipulated the situation so that he wouldn’t have a bad review with booking.com which is why I think he has any good reviews.. he’s probably bribing people to give him 5...

Dunnville is a nice little town....some nice places to visit .....Finding accommodation's is another thing.|BEFORE you commit to booking any room from this stank place please take my advice.|1- Make sure you really need to stay there|2-Do not trust any online booking agency with rates or online experiences of staying at this place; THE booking site we used cheated us and the Motel was so below standards. |3-If you need to stay here PLease look into the room you plan to stay in before paying....YOU MAY GET STUCK PAYING FOR SOMETHING YOU WOULD NOT KEEP YOUR PET IN OVERNIGHT.|4- Make sure if you wanted a king room you get one....WE got stuck paying for a room smaller than we paid for online....and did not get our overcharge monies back....||The Motel is situated on the lovely scenic Grand River BUT there are no doors or sliders to get to the back river unless you go through the front - very inconvenient....|It is a shame the place is not suitable for most folks.|WE were so glad to leave....feeling sick after the awful smell in the room. Our car broke down during our 4 hour drive back home. We unexpectedly had to find sleeping accommodations nearby so we could urgently get our car fixed as we had our 10week baby with us. We were suggested to go to RiverView as there weren’t a lot of options near by (car was getting fixed at the Canadian Tire). When we arrived and was given our room (#2) - it WREAKED of cigarette smoke! And yes , a “Non-Smoking Room”. The people that were staying in the room beside us mentioned how the people just left that morning.. So, of course with having an infant in-tow, I asked for a different room . & Graciously we were given a bit of an updated room..... thank goodness! It smelt like a hair salon ... so at least it was clean. Updated dark stained wood floors were nice. We were now in Room #8. There were cigarette burns in our bedding. The towels smelled clean, but were visibly stained (all two that were in our room). We had one washcloth. No hand soap in washroom (thank goodness I brought my own!).
