Providence Place — Hotel in Port Hardy

There were 7 of us embarked on a road trip around Vancouver Island for the holidays. As it had been cold and rainy, we were excited to check into our hotel room to get hot showers. ||From the moment we strolled into the lobby of the Providence Place Inn, our excitement started to fade.||The frontstaff was friendly but ignorant of the fact that WiFi worked nowhere in the hotel except for the lobby. When we opened the door to our room, we inhaled the strong waft of stale cigarettes. We also found our room violated multiple safety codes (see pictures) including exposed electrical wires and windows that opened wide -- great for being a fire escape into the bushes, but not so safe for children. The hot showers also turned out to be an intermittent warm/cold water experience in a moldy bathtub.||Around 1 am, we were awakened from dead sleep by a rowdy party below that went on for several hours with no apparent intervention from the hotel staff. ||For the price we paid, we were deeply disappointed by what seems to be a lack of pride in providing basic accommodations for tired travellers. We stayed here for a night before the ferry and had two rooms between the four of us. Parking was easy and the reception area was large and bright. Check in was quick and efficient and the staff were very helpful and friendly. Our rooms were large and bright with very comfortable beds. The bathroom was a good size and was well provided with towels and shampoo. There was a large selection of channels on the tv. Access to the town centre was easy by foot and it was only a 10-15 minute drive to the ferry port. We were very pleased with our choice of hotel and would definitely recommend it...

Only stayed one night as had just come off a 17 hour ferry from Prince Rupert and needed somewhere close to Port Hardy as it was 11.30pm. The receptionist was very friendly.

To be honest we weren't expecting much from this place and we weren't disappointed on that score. The room was spacious with 2 double beds but the furniture is very old fashioned and tired.
