Attempted to book a 3 day stay here three times by email and twice by phone. Never did get a confirmation email for a three day stay. Front desk staff sent one for two days only and implied that I was being unduly picky asking for the three day confirmation. Gave up and thought it would be sorted at check in. Again there was no expectation that we were staying 3 nights. Had to tell them at check in. On the morning of our second day we got a call from the front desk asking what time we were leaving. Again we told these same people were staying for the third night. How could such a small staff in a small hotel be that incompetent? As well, when trying to sort this out at the desk upon arrival the woman, short grey hair, was sniffy with me about the problem they had caused with the booking. She never did apologize for the missing confirmation and failure all of 6 times to book that third night. We used the hotel restaurant for the sake of convenience. Breakfast is not their strong suit. The potatoes were dry and without flavour. The toast spreads are served in a dollar store open storage box that is far too big. Peanut butter is kept in the same box making for the likelihood of contamination. One evening meal had to be returned. I cannot remember returning a meal in my life. It did not resemble any version of Mac'and Cheese I have ever seen. It war curly noodles swimming in an orange coloured sauce. It had no flavour whatsoever. Most staff were friendly and did their jobs but two did not. One young women hovered so much as to loom over us as we ate, constantly asking us if we were done in a near empty dining room. A man whose job seems to have been clearing often roamed around aimlessly, or stood with his hands in his pockets- food servers should never put their hands in their pockets. Not only do they look bored but their hands should be kept clean!- and even stood in the middle of the dining room scratching his head! The dining room sorely needs a manager to keep an eye on staff. Over all the hotel is an older building that could do with upgrades. The halls need a deep clean and for the three days we spent there no one ever vacuumed the carpets. The cleaners do not have vacuums on their trolleys. There is too much furniture in the rooms allowing no space to put your luggage(two foldout luggage racks in the closet-totally unusable) except on the bed and no room to move...
Read moreI booked a 2 night stay here a month prior to the stay. We are tourists and arrived at 11:30pm at night to check in, only to find out our whole stay was canceled.
The night shift manager was kind, however, kept placing blame on me and/or the booking agency for the cancelation which I disliked very much. I did not like this as the day and time our stay was canceled I was working, not to mention I was standing there with our stay still confirmed on my booking app. This is when they started to blame the booking agency.
We were told the hotel was fully booked, meaning, we are in an unknown area at 12am at night with nowhere to go. They did not offer to help us find a place, and charged us full price for the next day (but gave us a king room instead of a queen).
My partner and I were in the parking lot until 1am desperately trying to find a place to stay. We had come from Halifax after a day trip originally, and finally found a room (in Halifax). Meaning, we had to drive back to Halifax at 1am after driving from there, pay for the extra gas, and pay triple the price of our stay here for 5 hours of sleep. Our plans that were close to Truro were also canceled given the immense lack of sleep and travel time. During this time, I called the booking agency to confirm if what the hotel was saying was true. It wasn’t. They informed me I was right and the stay was still confirmed. This means the hotel messed up and canceled our stay.
I am giving this place a 2 star instead of 1 as Patsy, the day time manager I presume, offered our next night as a complimentary stay and told us it was their fault and apologized. We were also upgraded to a nicer room. I will add that I think more could be offered, given the immense trouble this caused us. Not only are we out an extra 300$, our plans were canceled and we ran on very little sleep and were extremely stressed (arrived to hotel 1130pm, didn’t get to the new one after spending hours searching for a stay until 2:20am). I’m grateful to have had a free nights stay in a nice room, but since we originally had two nights, I feel it would’ve been best to offer a voucher for a stay in a nest western for the future as well.
Staff were kind and considerate and I appreciate Patsy for apologizing and trying to make things right. The breakfast...
Read moreIn December of 2012 a teammate of mine phoned the Best Western Plus Glengarry in Truro, Nova Scotia reserving seven rooms for two nights for our rugby team. A credit card number was provided for a $500 deposit. The call was brief, vague, and neither a confirmation email nor any form of follow-up was sent.
While we travel to Truro from Halifax annually to participate in the Truro Rugby Club's annual tournament, this is the first year that our Planning Committee chose to stay in the Best Western Plus Glengarry for accommodation.
On March 6, 2013, the same teammate called to cancel two of the seven rooms as per the 24 hour cancellation policy outlined on the Best Western Glengarry's website. She was very surprised and alarmed to be told that the cancellation policy for this specific tournament weekend had changed to seven days and they would not cancel the two rooms.
At no time were we informed verbally or in writing of this more restrictive cancelation policy at the time of booking. We then attempted many times through email, phone, and fax to contact Rose DeCoste, the manager working at the time, to try and work out the misunderstanding. Ms. DeCoste chose to ignore us through and through. We also contacted the main Best Western Customer Care line via email and phone, they also chose to ignore the situation.
Upon our arrival in Truro the morning of March 8th, 2013 I went in person to try and speak with Ms. DeCoste, the front-end staff were immediately rude and refused to talk to us, informing us over and over again that we were told because "they've been doing this for years" and "everyone knows of this policy." It was never the policy we had an issue with, just the fact that we were not informed of the change and that we were ignored when we tried through every medium to discuss it sensibly and calmly with them.
I was shocked at this treatment from Ms. DeCoste and her staff and as a result can be certain we will never be staying there again. We will be returning to the Holiday Inn in Truro where we stayed last year, I highly recommend it over the Best...
