We drove all the way from Halifax on our way to Cape Breton and made a special stop in Truro to try this local coffee shop—because we love supporting local. Sadly, this was our first (and last) visit. The coffee may be good, but no latte in the world is worth the attitude we got. The older gentleman in green, with long hair, eyeglasses, and a hat, took our order and managed to be snarky with every single response to our questions. Interestingly enough, he seemed all smiles and warmth with the white customers—so either we caught him on the world’s worst day, or he was being selective with his “hospitality.” Neither is a good look. If this man is the owner, he should take a long vacation to reflect on his manners—or better yet, step down and let someone who actually values customers handle the front. If he’s an employee, then training clearly isn’t working, and you have to wonder why he’s still in customer service at all. Great coffee can’t save bad service, and this place proved that.

If you are like me and plant-based, gluten-free, caffeine sensitive, and/or don't like hot drinks, fear not - there is something here for you! Today was my first time here and I am happy to report that there was a wheat-free and vegan option. I am so grateful because these options are hard to find, especially in Truro. It had a cauliflower pakora with mango chutney and it was delicious. I also ordered a lemonade smoothie with no yogurt which was sweet, tart, and very yummy. The merchandise that is sold there is book-themed and reasonably priced. There are also local artists featured throughout such as Tidal Turnings (a local wood turner who makes fancy pens and other things by hand) and the staff were helpful. I will be back and with a whole crew next time because I need to show this place off!

I know I've written a review for NovelTea before but it seems to want me to do another! This cafe is definitely a downtown GEM. It is the spot for social get togethers, quiet downtime to yourself and a healthy delicious bite at lunch. The music is serene, the atmosphere is relaxing and pleasant and the staff are wonderful and friendly. This cafe is located right downtown close to the farmers market (On Saturdays), close to the Marigold Theatre and tons of other downtown fun activities to do. Step inside to cozy up on a winter day, or make it your stop after a fun day in the trails at Victoria park. We are certainly lucky to have this in our town.

I dropped by to check out this delightful bookstore & café, which is located right in the heart of downtown Truro, during a recent visit to the area to visit family; as we kept driving by it and the name totally intrigued me.

I found there to be a decent selection of both new and used books. They also offer a good selection of both hot and cold beverages to choose from; including coffee, tea, espresso, tea lattés, hot chocolate, soda, and iced teas, iced coffees and even iced hot chocolate!

There is also a menu of light food that is offered, ranging from sandwiches, panini and samosas, to pastries, cheesecake, other desserts, and more, including vegan options. They also offer packages of loose teas and coffees to purchase.

There was also a lovely collection of arts, gifts and crafts from local and Atlantic Canadian artisans available for sale; ranging from cards, candles, sculptures, pottery, wood crafts, literature inspired t-shirts and more. (I thought the Wonderful Wizard of Oz t-shirt and the Alice in Wonderland Jabberwocky t-shirt quite adorable!)

Variety of types of seating, some of it quite comfy. There was a live singer in the back area not too long after we arrived, and it was a bit louder thanI would have liked for having a conversation with friends, so we didn't stay too long after that.

Definitely worth checking out if you are...

I got coffee/lattes here for a couple weeks, I stopped going because out of all the different drinks I tried they all tasted exactly the same. I found that what the menu said would be in the drink wasn't actually put into the drinks. Also there seems to be a lot of different staff and they all make the drinks differently so it was fairly inconsistent.

-I'm responding on here because Im not sure how else to reach out aside from coming into the shop, I have tried all of your "special" lattes and I have also tried your "passage to India" drink as well. I like the strength of the drinks the espresso definitely comes through well, with the lattes which I have tried them all hot & iced and aside from the tea latte, the red velvet & the Cara melt they all tasted like a regular caramel latte. Some of them talk about having cinnamon milk or at least that's how it looks on the menu but the but I only get caramel, also the passage to India says cinnamon milk but there was no cinnamon presence as for the "dirty hippie" which is a Chai latte with a espresso shot also had no cinnamon presence. If you want to leave your email I would be more than happy...

My experience at NovelTea was exactly as I needed it to be. Easy parking, there's a lot out back, but I parked out front, easy in, easy out. It is lovely, inviting and spacious inside, with plenty of directions to go to find a cozy spot to sit. Two lovely women were working happily together. They have a walk up counter where you order. The cases were brimming with freshly made goodies. I was served very quickly. I ordered a chai latte, ham and cheese sandwich, and a cranberry orange scone. My server offered to warm the sandwich on a press. Yes please! The sandwich was perfection... The rosemary focaccia was crispy on the outside and soft in the middle, the melted cheddar cheese held the smoked ham slices perfectly in place. My chai latte was delish, not too sweet. The scone was again crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, the cranberries were tart and the orange flavor in balance. I took advantage of the washroom available. Nice and clean! The whole place is clean and interesting to look around. Next time I won't leave without...
