We travelled to Hospedaje Maria on a recommendation from a friend, when we arrived we were a little worried that it was a bit out of town but we were able to quickly find a ‘collectivo’ to and from the hospedaje to get us where we needed. Maria also picked us up from the bus terminal which was really generous of her. The room we were given was spacious for the amount we paid and had comfortable bedding. Each room is heated with a TV. Breakfast is included in the price which was a great bonus also. There is shared bathrooms but They are cleaned regularly and there is also hot water with decent water pressure. Maria and her Husband were gracious hosts and were super helpful in giving us directions and ideas on what to do and see around chiloe, they made us feel very welcome as if we were guests in their private home. They also prepared an amazing dinner for us on our last day and took us on a short tour of the island. Hospedaje Maria was a great place for us as it gave us the ability to have our own privacy away from the noise of the main town centre, but not be too far away as to struggle to enjoy the trip. The only downfall is they do not speak a lot of English but with basic Spanish or even a small translator book you’d be absolutely fine communicating! Overall this was a great place to stay, decent price, decent location and a comfortable stay. Could not...
Read moreDo not attempt to stay here unless you have a car. It is situated a little way out of town, up a hill and difficult to reach on foot. The owner Maria is extremely hospitable and is always on hand to assist you with all your inquires. She also makes a good breakfast (or main meal if you pre-order) - her cooking is excellent. The rooms are large, the wi-fi is good, the bed was comfortable and the shower (although a little old fashioned) was hot & strong. All acceptably clean. On the downside the whole complex feels a little oppressive being made of dark wooden paneling and our room had very little natural light. At night we were cold as there was no heating but Maria told this was going to be installed. On the face of it, it looks very small but the place is a warren of many rooms - make sure you request private facilities when you book as not all come with this option. At night all the local stray dogs take to barking. Oh and Maria doesn't speak English. Good value for money providing you only use it as base - not somewhere to rest &...
Read moreWe're here on a busy weekend when the Palafitos were tripling their price, so ended up at Hospedaje Maria and were glad we did. Maria is awesome, she was really nice and accommodating. Communication was a bit difficult given our limited Spanish, but we still managed. Our room was good sized, had heating and warm water. The location was fine for us. Although not downtown, it was only a 10 minute or so walk. A benefit is you are close to a lookout of the downtown Castro. Breakfast was similar to most in Chile - bread, jam, eggs. But the homemade jam was the best we had yet. Reminded us of our...
