We turned up at the doorstep of Hostal Maura dirty, tired and with no reservations. Mauro, his mother and his wife took us in like family right away. Rooms are clean and well maintained, and ours had a view of the volcano. They shared their dinner -- a big pot of steamed local mussels -- with us, and we stayed up late together drinking wine and telling stories. Mauro was an incredibly warm and gracious host, letting us use his tools to tune up our bikes and later helping us find a ride to the ferry. We loved Cochamo and Hostal Maura so much we changed our plans to stay an extra day. This is true Patagonia hospitality! ... They helped us with any concern and provided us information about any plans we had during our stay. Every morning they prepare a very neat breakfast and in the evenings you can either have dinner with them or drink tea and eat cookies and have the nicest conversations about traveling experiences. The house is very comfy with a cosy oven in the living room and a beautiful sauna in the garden for those who stay there in winter. I would recommend this accomodation...

The hostal itself -- rooms, views, garden and its kitchen, sauna -- is cozy and sweet, all of it surrounded by stunning views of mountains around and stars and the moon above at night. Mauro helped us figure out everything we needed for the rest of our trip, on his own initiative calling tens of guides to get us information. His mother baked delucious cakes for breskfast.
