I stayed four nights here during my vacation to Easter Island. ||||Positives: Get the breakfast included in your reservation. VERY filling and delicious. The owner clearly puts a lot of thought into preparing it. The room was small, but clean and functional. Bed was comfortable and the shower pressure/temperature was good. The grounds of the hostel are beautiful. Lots of animals, including friendly cats on the property. Nice, big porch in front of the office that is great to spend your evenings on. Owner speaks very little English, but she is super friendly and we were able to communicate despite the language barrier. ||||Negative: The roosters on the property start crowing about 5AM. I really noticed it the first night but did sort of get used to it by the end of my stay. The reason I didn't give Pukao 5 stars was its distance from town. The walk TO town isn't so bad. It's about 20 minutes all downhill. The walk back however, takes about 25 minutes and is almost all uphill. At the end of the day, the last thing I wanted to do was walk uphill for that long. Also make sure you notice landmarks as you walk into town so that you can find your way back. WiFi is available on the porch but the signal was never very strong for me. ||||Despite the long walk, I would probably stay here again if I ever returned to the island. The breakfast alone is a huge selling point. Give Hostel Pukao a shot if you don't mind the walk into...
Read moreI stayed here for three days in early January. I was pleasantly impressed and surprised by the hospitable and kind hosts. I am a flight attendant and travel a lot, and the quality and kindness displayed during my visit was impressive. The breakfast was always delicious and the attention to detail was apparent. I really felt that I was staying with family, and the staff will go out of their way to make your stay comfortable and memorable. I found the room to be clean, comfortable and peaceful.||||Although the hostel is just a little out of town (maybe 20 min walk), the hosts will drive you in at anytime, and all over the island for fair prices. Plus, after staying at another location in Hanga Roa, I would come back to Hostal Pukao in a heartbeat. It was also possible to rent a car on site, and the hosts will drive you to Anakena beach, and pick you up when you are ready.||||The hosts are incredible and really go out of their way to make your stay special. Maria is such a gem and an angel, as are Tity and Anita. After travelling the world for work, this has been one of my favourite spots I've stayed. I am very grateful for the hospitality and wonderful vibe of the property! It was so memorable. Once again, the breakfast and fruit was delicious, and the hosts will also do their best to accommodate dietary...
Read more-We were picked up from the airport - a very welcome gesture and driven to the Hostal. The room was clean and the shared kitchen had everything you could need to cook with; great since eating out and food is very expensive. The owner welcomed us with a mapand a chat about what we wanted to do and how best to do it. We hired her car, a Suzuki 4x4, for $40 a day. The breakfast was splendid. Eggs, home made breads, preserves, fruit, cake. A fantastic start to each day. There were a few animals which just added flavour to the place. If you dont want to be in the hum drum of the town this place is the right place to be - just far away enough. I don´t think that it was possible for the owner to do anything more for us, but she helped me find an author of a book I had read about the island and I went home with a signed copy. A lovely keep sake. To top it all they also took us to the airport and gave us a traditional goodbye. Very...
