The Hostal La Gringa Carioca is set in a quiet corner of the town and surrounded by a pretty garden. The owner was helpful and welcoming. The breakfast a little on the lean side but that's just me...The room was fine, comfortable - the bathroom ok so what was the problem I hear you say? The first night I hardly slept a wink because the owner's dogs were barking and carrying on right outside the window. When I mentioned it to her the next morning her answer was "Oh yes they bark when they hear people in the street...and I would have them in the house with me but then they'd keep ME awake!" The second night I mentioned that I'd slept much better, thinking that she had removed the dogs but the answer was "that's because they escaped - must have left the gate open"...Tourists pay to get a good night's sleep - sabotaging your own...
Read moreI stayed at the Gringa with one of our commercial groups. This is a cozy, boutique establishment. The weather wasn’t particularly good that week and every day when we returned from the days’ activities there was a warm fire waiting with tea, coffee and juice and homemade bread with butter, cookies or cake. We paid for dinners and the food was excellent with vegetables from their garden and homemade bread. It was touches like that, that made my groups stay so memorable. (Many people don't know it, but Patagonia is just as beautiful in winter as it is in summer.) Adriana is a gracious host and will go out of her way to help you find what you need in town. She is fluent in English and Portuguese as well as Spanish. The house is adorable, well located on the edge of town, and possesses a beautiful overlook of the scenic Espolon River.
