We stopped in Osorno on our way from Santiago to Bariloche. The owners told us that Rucaitue means something like a "warm embrace" in the local indigenous language, and indeed, we felt well taken care of. The rooms and bathrooms were clean and comfortable. Breakfast was very complete and they saw to it that we had anything we needed, with fruit and yogurt, toast, pastries and cakes, ham, cheese, cereal and muesli. The hotel is only a couple blocks from the central plaza, so it was easy to walk to shops and small restaurants. Taxi fare from the bus station was not expensive. The owners were able to arrange a guide for us who took us out to the country to see the Osorno volcano and other stops of interest. We had a wonderful day. We also highly recommend the Brazilian grill in the shopping walkway behind the hotel. It was the most excellent grill we had on our trip and the owner was very personable. The hotel has a secure parking lot and there was always someone at the front desk. They ensured that we had a good taxi back to the bus depot. We were there in the spring (November) but I think it would be a very cozy hotel in winter. The only complaint was that the motion-detector lights on the stairs meant that it could be somewhat dim - a difficulty for my mother who does not see well. However, the railings were secure and she did fine. My only hesitation on value was that it was relatively expensive, but then I think it was not above average for Osorno, which seems like an expensive city as it has so many travelers. This hotel met and exceeded...
Read moreWe stayed at the Hotel Racuitue in Orsono for one night whilst on route to Puerto Montt. The fee was $75000 Chilean Pesos (approximately AUD$150 or GBP£75) per night including a standard Chillean breakfast (bread, slices of ham and cheese and instant coffee or tea), Internet access via WiFi, on-site parking and access to cable television.||||Our room, the habitación familiar (family room), was divided into two separate rooms. Each smaller room contained a bed, a television, cupboard space and room heater. All of the beds (double, single and bunk beds) were comfortable and warm. There were no coffee or tea making facilities (tea and coffee is available upon request) or microwave oven.||||The bathroom and towels were clean and basic toileteries are supplied. There was also ample hot water, essential during the freezing Chilean winter months.||||The staff at recepción (reception) l could not speak English, so a basic command of Spanish is recommended. Regardless, all of the hotel staff were friendly and accomodating.||||Travellers Tip: Orsono is a large city filled with restaurants, eateries and supermarkets. Most are located in a mall which is only five minutes walk to Hotel Racuitue. We also suggest the purchase of earplugs to muffle the sound of other guests wandering through the hotel and the noise of the city - the walls in the...
