We stayed at the Hotel Diego de Almagro Aeropuerto on two occasions in late November/early December 2019; once before flying to Hanga Roa, and again on the return.||||The shuttle from and to the airport is very easy. When you emerge from the arrivals area at SCL there are several TransVIP counters. Many taxi drivers will court you for their business, but nothing beats free. Tell the TransVIP agent where you're staying and s/he will give you a voucher and you step outside and into the van. It's less than 10 minutes from the airport. To return to the airport, TransVIP doesn't come into it. For the return, you use the hotel's own shuttle vans, which leave every 30 minutes. A reservation is not required; just tell the desk clerk you need one.||||I would call the hotel Basic Plus, if you can imagine such a thing. There are no frills, but it is comfortable and clean, if a little bit worn around the edges here and there. The lot the hotel sits on is small, but we were pleasantly surprised by the array of lovely flower gardens around the premises. Rooms are spacious and the beds and bedding are comfortable. Like many places in Europe, wash cloths are not provided. Our rooms had two hard-backed desk chairs but no comfortable chair to sit in. Even though it's a fairly plain box-like hotel, look for a few interesting architectural details. The hallways are of a tapered width; the ends of the building have cool wraparound windows and nice stone veneer; and the freestanding modern staircase in the building's core is quite impressive once you notice it. ||||The breakfast buffet that comes with the room is basic but completely adequate, and is served as of 4am. A different breakfast buffet is served a bit later in the morning but I'm not sure if that one comes with the room. We had a lunch and two dinners in the hotel's restaurant. The prices are fair, the food is quite good, and the servers are efficient and very pleasant.||||The desk staff we interacted with were all extremely pleasant and helpful and spoke fluent English (which is not necessarily a given). They were able to hold our excess luggage for the three days that we traveled to Easter Island, which was very helpful.||||If I were to be at SCL airport again, I would not think twice about staying at the Hotel Diego de...
Read moreThe shuttle from the airport is included in the price, which isn't the case for some other nearby hotels.
At reception, they spoke excellent English, and were happy to give me my room a few hours before the advertised check-in time.
The room is plain but perfectly functional.
But the room service is non-existent. I called the number several times over the period of half an hour from about 7pm, but they never answered. I called reception, and they transferred me, but nobody answered. So I called reception again, and they took the order on my behalf. Over an hour later I called reception again (because room service didn't answer) asking what was happening, and they said that the restaurant was very busy, and they would see what was happening. How long does it take to make a club sandwich and some fries?
That was over an hour ago. It's been three hours since I began my quest for room service. I haven't taken a shower yet, because I'm worried I'll miss the knock on the door. I haven't gone down to reception or the restaurant in person, because I'm worried my food will arrive while I'm gone.
This is not room service. This is room NON-service. The hotel should remove "room service" from its...
Read moreI'm not sure if 3* is totally fair, but what clinched it for me, was arriving at 4pm and being told I had to wait an hour as my room wasn't ready. Reception was clearly stressed with guests arriving who had to sit in reception and wait. ||||The hotel structure is fine - I had a big room, slightly older furniture, no English language TV (but not really a problem) and a decent bathroom with a good shower. I didn't hear noise at night time, but could hear conversations in the next room in the evening. Wifi was good and allowed me to call home. ||||Dinner in the restaurant was fine - good choice but a bit expensive really.||||The shuttle, as others have mentioned, was excellent and easy and the hotel contacted me beforehand with instructions. I had to leave at 4:30am and the shuttle was full by 4:20am so make sure you go down early - you can't book. ||||Overall, it did the job fine, but 4pm is too late to still be cleaning...
