I have stayed in many small towns around Chile in various types of accommodation, and have done the same in the back roads of Mexico. I’m used to ‘getting what you pay for’ but this hostel has few redeeming features.||Be aware that not many rooms have en suite facilities so you end up sharing communal bathrooms with total strangers (not at the same time obviously!).||However, more importantly, most rooms don’t have windows so you are effectively staying in a CUPBOARD. The rooms are hot and airless and although there’s a fan that just stirs up the rank air it’s very oppressive and unpleasant. I CANNOT recommend staying here unless you are truly desperate.||We booked 3 nights on the first occasion and 2 nights a week later, paying in advance via Booking.com. We booked two rooms with en-suite bathrooms. When we arrived on both occasions only one room had a bathroom and they told us that a private bathroom was a shared one, but their rack rates clearly show a price difference. I even showed on the booking confirmation that we had paid the higher rate.||We tried to negotiate a reduction on an extra room on the second visit but they threatened to cancel our booking all together. ||The staff at the hostel are very pleasant but the owner lives in Antofagasta and was shrieking down the phone at the staff member at the hostel.
