English speaking stuff is an exception. However, the people are friendly and the rooms overall clean. I was in room 4, in which windows cannot be locked. So one should not mind that theoretically someone could enter the room from the courtyard at any time. When I first entered the room, there was a disgusting smell of sewage hanging in the room. This came from a floor drain in the bathroom. I put the bathroom mat on the drain and the smell quickly disappeared. The hotel could have figured it out themselves. Instead, the bathroom mat was placed back in front of the bathtub when the room was cleaned. Warm water was flowing quite limited. It took me a while to wash shampoo out of my long hair. The breakfast is simple without choices (One roll, two slices of cheese, one yoghurt, coffee/tea, biscuits + jam on the second day of my stay). The small pool in the courtyard could not be used during my stay. The water was green. The price for the room changed when I arrived. A Chilenen fried of mine was told a cheaper price at the phone, but I had to pay 47.000 per night. Although the room was big, this is not a valuable price at the end of the season/ start of off-season, considering the smell in the room, the simple breakfast, the limited hot water access, the security issue with the window, and the green pool in...
Read moreMi Tampi is a nice little hotel, but I'm not sure it really lives up to the high ratings it has here. XThe staff are friendly and helpful. Wifi is pretty good and there are computers for guests to use. Breakfast is typical Chilean - bread / cheese / ham / hot drinks. Our room a good size and was spotlessly clean, but the decor and furnishings were very tired. The room had a pillar fan, which was an essential feature as the room became very stuffy when the fan wasn't on. Our room didn't have any exterior windows, which suited us as it was not affected by noise outside the hotel, but probably contributed to the room being stuffy. The interior courtyard is a nice feature, but unfortunately the hotel allows people to smoke in it and the smell carries whichever way the wind is blowing. Pricing at the hotel is high for what is provided, and that for me makes this an 'average' choice. Taltal is affected by the mining boom so you will pay more than you...
Read moreWe fell in love with Hotel Mi Tampi when we saw the nicely shaded courtyard. When the proprietress told us they only had one room -- a triple -- we took it. She charged us the cheaper "matrimonial" rate. Perfect...||||But the real deal came when I lost my car keys. Janette, the housekeeper, helped us turn our room upside down. No luck. She helped me call the rental agency, so they could send new keys. She nagged her boss, Jaime, to keep calling when she couldn't get through. And Jaime persisted till he succeeded, which gave us a giant step toward getting out of a major jam! ||||And when I finally found my keys, lodged under my suitcase, we all had a laugh... For those who write that Hotel Mi Tampi is like staying with family -- they are absolutely right! This is an awesome hotel in Taltal, a city that is one of north Chile's hidden gems. By all means go there if you get the chance! Great hotel, great people, wonderful town... Highly...
