The hotel is indeed located very close to the metro — less than a 5-minute walk. There’s also a McDonald's and a 7-Eleven within walking distance. The staff doesn’t speak English, but with the help of a translator, they assisted me several times without any issues. A nice bonus was that we were allowed to check in an hour earlier than the official check-in time. The hotel interior is pleasant: there are carpets in the hallways, although there is a noticeable smell of cigarettes. Breakfast is a buffet and fairly simple, but you won’t leave hungry: scrambled eggs with bacon, one or two chicken dishes, several side dish options, Chinese steamed buns, and a couple of fruit choices. I didn’t like the coffee and juices, but the rest was acceptable. The room we were given looked nothing like the photos when booking (we chose the Premium Family Room). The view from the window was awful — facing a service corridor of another building, where people were walking and using a sink. Because of that, we couldn’t properly open the window or curtains. It took about 5 minutes of running the tap before the water became at least warm. Bed linen was not changed during our 4-night stay, the floor was cleaned every other day. Towels were replaced daily, and each day we received 3 bottles of water, as well as green and black tea. The hotel provides good-quality shower gel and shampoo, with a...
Read moreFirst of all , we stayed here over Chinese New Year, so it is only expected that the shop, restaurant etc. we’re closed, that was to be expected! Taking the hotel by itself, I have nothing good to say apart from this place apart from: it was next to a metro and the rooms were warm and clean. I am really not that hard to please but we had cold water on the first morning, leading to 2 staff coming up rummaging around in the (small) bathroom for 20 mins while I looked on in my pajamas, kind of eager to have a shower and get out for the day! Staff spoke no English really. Fair enough. But when I wanted to find a pharmacy, they didn’t have a clue where one was, even when it was translated. There were some toiletries in the bathroom, which we used a little. Didn’t need them, but we assumed they were free, considering there was no indication they weren’t and that stuff usually is in hotels! This cost 40 yuan. No English channels, no mini bar, no tea or coffee. Oh and they window room, which we paid a little extra for to have a window, may as well not have had anything, as it had a wall pretty much up against it. Stay in a hostel if you want cheap...
Read moreSaga is a really basic hostel. We booked there after reading very enthusiastic reviews and were a little disappointed. ||The room was really basic -- no hooks, no mirror, no space for luggage. It was relatively clean even if there was no daily cleaning as we had seen in the description and after 5 days our room was definitely dusty.||We were there in February and it was really cold in the room, we had to use our sleeping bags. ||The common showers and toilets were good and clean. ||The bar downstairs was nice and had a nice menu although quite overpriced compared to other bars and restaurants in Beijing. (an example is 5yuan for a bottle of water in the hostel -- 2yuan in supermarket!) ||The staff spoke good english and was friendly enough although they often seemed to be too busy to attend us. We got told a few times to 'come back later'. ||We also attended a 'free dumpling' night where we learnt to make dumplings -- that was really nice! ||I would say that it is a nice enough place to stay for a few nights but slightly overpriced for...
