This is a great hotel for a trip to Beijing. Many reasons why:|1. Excellent rooms that are comfortable and have a nice range of amenities. Plus they’ll clean your room at any hour, mornings/afternoons/evenings included. No fuss. Just push a button in your room and they’ll come clean! Plus the room is entirely automated (lights, shades) so it feels luxurious. ||2. Good restaurants/bar in the hotel (I tried Jing Yaa Tang for Peking duck and Union for unique cocktails). The restaurant employees came off as knowledgeable about their food/drinks and even passionate about showing you the flavors of china. It was fun to chat with them and they were very friendly. ||3. Great location in the Sanlitun neighborhood where there are a LOT of restaurants, stores for shopping, and bars. You won’t be bored here!||4. Well located within Beijing so that you can go to the tourist attractions, Guomao (if you’re here for work), and other neighborhoods and even the airport with relative ease||5. Gym/pool. The gym is medium-sized - I’ve seen bigger hotel gyms but it’s big enough to get a good workout in. I think the real attraction is the swimming pool which is aesthetically pleasing and good to do laps. So all in all, you can get a good workout here. ||6. Very clean property/facilities. ||7. Last and definitely most important reason to stay here is the staff! The entire hotel staff is incredible. I can’t speak highly enough about the staff. Every single employee I interacted with was incredible, and it speaks volumes to their training and care for their guests. The staff helped me in many ways: planning food tours and trips to the Great Wall, figuring out how to get from the airport to the hotel (I don’t speak mandarin), checking in if I forgot to get my room cleaned, booking restaurants for me (VERY helpful since its hard to call restaurants in Beijing when you don’t speak the language - the staff called 5-10 restaurants to help me figure out where and when I could go to each one), helping me find a gift for my wife, etc. It’s even the little things, like how they always open the door for you to the hotel, or even how they printed my boarding pass but put it in a plastic transparent slip (no other hotel would do that without asking!). ||8. English-friendly hotel. Not knowing mandarin can make Beijing tough. Luckily, this hotel is a great place to stay for English speakers as everyone speaks English and they’ll help you figure out how to get around town. ||This is one of the top rated hotels in Beijing and it shows why. I will be staying here again on...
Read moreJust got back from an amazing week in Beijing at the Opposite House! I was a frequent guest here after it first opened about 10 years ago, and now that I am traveling to Beijing again post Covid. I am so happy I went back to my favorite hotel! The rooms are so bright and airy, and the studio is way bigger than any hotel room in New York. The entire hotel is very bright and artsy and has an amazing vibe. The room is stocked with everything you need, including wireless speakers, and fast Wi-Fi. The complementary minibar is stocked daily, which was super helpful because I was jampacked with work and the gummy bears and cookies really got me through the Jetlag and midnight work calls.|The breakfast service was lovely. It had everything you needed, I highly recommended the avocado toast with poached eggs! The cappuccino was great! It wasn’t a huge live cooking station breakfast like some other hotels in China offer, but it was healthy and fresh and just what I needed to start every morning.|I also picked the hotel because of the nice gym, and I was down every morning for a run and a swim in there beautiful lap pool there’s also a sauna and full locker room attached to the gym.| The best part about the hotel is the amazing customer service! The concierge helped me make Massage reservations at a great spa across the street in the Soho complex. And the team even surprised me with New Year’s gifts, and stuffed dragons to take home to my kids! Really incredible staff that is such a huge help in navigating Beijing and making reservations and recommendations for getting around. Also, you can’t beat the location! Sanlitun has changed a lot in the last 10 years but still has incredible shopping eating and...
Read moreIt has been almost 5 years since I last visited Beijing, due to the pandemic and travel restrictions. In the years before the pandemic I would often stay at the Opposite House as it was in a great location, offered something different and was very relaxing. Being a bit sentimental and in need of a relaxing weekend, when faced with a reason to visit Beijing, my heart overruled my head and I ignored the price of the rooms and booked two nights.Walking in to the hotel it has slightly changed, the fantastic bar it had moving to where the reception used to be and a trendy Sichuan restaurant taking its place. The lobby is still stunning and immediately relaxes you into the feel of the hotel.Previously when I last stayed ,the staff while very friendly and efficient, but could come across a bit aloof. There is a noticeable difference now, there is a warmer approach, very friendly and eager to help, but not in an intrusive way. Vincent at the desk was especially helpful and friendly, arranging for some parcels to couriered for me.The rooms are still the same, which is great, large, comfortable, clean, minimal, with a great wide and deep bath. The free mini bar is well stocked and bed is large and comfortable. The new bar is very good, a different feeling to the old bar, however the service is still efficient and friendly, the environment relaxing and the Gin Batch, gin and tonics are wonderful. Overall a great and relaxing experience and I want to go back as soon as I can afford the time...
