This hotel has two major shortcomings. First, the duvets provided for guests are extremely thick and heavy, causing you to sweat profusely even during November’s winter season. Unfortunately, the hotel does not offer alternative options. Second, out of the eight floors of guest rooms, only two are designated as non-smoking floors. Staying on a non-smoking floor is purely a matter of luck, and I wasn’t able to secure one on either of my visits. Rooms on the smoking floors are filled with the smell of smoke, and the hotel’s maximum effort to address this is odor treatment, which I suspect involves little more than spraying chemical deodorizers or air fresheners. The smoke smell, which has permeated the carpets, bedding, and furnishings, lingers persistently and is particularly challenging for non-smokers sensitive to it. In an era when nearly all upscale hotels worldwide have banned smoking, Hilton’s brand in Chengdu stands out in an especially unique way. Another slightly inconvenient aspect is that the hotel, with its eight floors of guest rooms, has only two elevators. The wait times can be quite long, and the small elevators are often very crowded. Breakfast is abundant but not all that delicious. For instance, the freshly made wontons have thick, tough skins that are hard to chew, far inferior to those served in local restaurants.
Now for the positives: the location is excellent, just a few steps away from the famous Kuanzhai Alley. Additionally, the hotel is situated on the renowned Xi’an Road shopping street, surrounded by an array of tempting restaurants that make choosing one a challenge. Even the street-facing rooms are surprisingly quiet. The hotel staff is very warm and friendly.
However, my two stays here have made me willing to sacrifice such a prime location in favor of a slightly more distant hotel where I can get a good...
Read moreWe booked a double double room but then upgraded to family room (please note:family rooms are allowed to smoke I heard). The first room we assigned gave a strong lingering cigarette smell, when we asked to change, they immediately open another rooms for us to smell (two members of my family have very strong smell that would make them sick often). Service was wonderful since arrival. They have free coffee and tea at the lobby. Free laundry room with dryer as well. The breakfast was wonderful too, our family always love a great breakfast in China. Mostly Chinese style, but they try to cater others with breads and jams, fruits, and milk. Location is very convenient, lots of local good food nearby. The receptions are very attentive. We needed help since our luggage's lock was broken, and they send someone immediately the next morning to help ( it was already night time when I asked for help). We stayed during Christmas, on Christmas eve, each of us were given a bag with an apple inside. When we checked out on the 25th my kids were given panda dolls and apples plus a bottle of mineral water for out train trip to another city by 小何, such a warming and wonderful service we received, made our Christmas in...
