I booked a Double Room at the 7 Days Premium Guangzhou - Kecun Metro 2nd Branch through Agoda. I chose this hotel as a central location to explore Guangzhou's brewpubs. Being located within walking distance to the Kecun metro station, made it convenient to reach various parts of the city and the two railway stations that I arrived at and left from.||||There are numerous local restaurants within the hotel's immediate neighbourhood. On the south side of Xingang Middle Road, the area's main thoroughfare, there is shopping at Living Mall, many more dining options extending to, and along, Yiyuan Road, and vibrant nightlife at Starlight Walk. Canton Tower and the promenade along the Pearl River are also within walking distance. However, if you find that you will spend some amount of time around Living Mall and Starlight Walk, it would be more convenient to book at the first 7 Days Inn Kecun branch, since it is right at one of only two crossing points for Xingang Middle Road. The second crossing is through the subway station, which is tedious because you can only do so by going through security screening and passenger volume is one of the highest of the entire system.||||This hotel delivers the typical budget standard you would expect from 7 Days Inn. It's a small hotel with only three floors. I told the front desk staff I wanted to check in in Chinese, gave them my passport and Agoda hotel voucher. After some difficulty, I was given a room on the second floor. ||||The room was spacious with a king-size bed, side table, desk, and chair. Natural light came in from a west-facing window. The air conditioner and plumbing worked properly. However, initially, there was a urine odour in the bathroom. This dissipated with use of the ceiling fan and, perhaps, the shower. There was no palpable cigarette odour.||||The bed mattress was stiff and thinner, relative to an international 5-star chain hotel. To get more comfort, I put one of the pillows under my calves while using the other to support my head an neck. This sufficed in giving me a good night's sleep. The bedding an linens were changed daily.||||Unlike the Jinjiang Inn Chain, 7 Days Inn do not provide you with complimentary bottled water to use with the electric kettle. They do sell beverages in the lobby. There is also a convenience store two doors away, where I bought an inexpensive 1L bottle of water.||||Despite difficulties you may have interacting with the staff with their limited English and your limited-to-non-existant Chinese, I found them to be friendly and especially helpful on two occasions. The first time was when my money ran out on my local SIM card. I tried to find a nearby store location for the telecom provider, but there were only licensed vendors who will not recharge your card. The normal way to do this is online, but you need a local bank account, so this wasn't an option for me. It is possible to get another person to recharge your account if they have your phone number. One of the staff agreed to do this for me and I gave them 100 RMB in cash.||||The second time I needed help was when I had left my mobile phone in a taxi when getting out in front of Living Mall late in the evening. I discovered this just as the taxi was driving off, but too far away to flag it down. I ran back to the hotel and explained to the front desk staff my situation. They tried calling my phone, but it had been powered off. They then immediately called the police whom I went with to the place where I had alighted from the taxi. I was then taken to the police station, where they reviewed CCTV footage of that area. They were able to find video of the taxi, but were not able to discern its license plate number. Unfortunately, I was not able to retrieve my phone. Nevertheless, I appreciated the effort of the hotel staff and police...
