Railway Station Hotel — Hotel in Hong Kong

Stayed 2 nights in this hotel's East Building. Note that this hotel is separated by the East Building and the West Building. Supposedly, the price difference between the two will be the closer location access to Building East from the lobby. Access to the West Building requires you to walk a long connector path through the building on the 3rd floor to another set of elevators. The rooms may be a bit larger, quieter and cleaner. This hotel is very simple with basic furnishings. There are signs of some wear and tear of wallpapers and stained carpet. But the room was clean and no smell. I always wipe surfaces with disinfectant wipes in every hotel I stay. Surprised that the used wipe was very clean. Staff is as efficient as it can be with their limited English. Location is a busy area with lots of travelers and locals. Many fast food eateries and restaurants. We chose the East Building on the last 2 days of our stay in China. Main reason is that we had to catch an early United Airline flight from HKG. It was much easier & closest to lug our suitcases toward the Customs Immigration points for both Louhu and HKG. Very convenient and short walk compared to Best Western Felicity and Shangri-La Hotel. We checked out and crossed the border at 6:30 am and arrived at HKIA by 8 am! Definitely a value for the money.||Note: I see other reviews that complain of tobacco use smell. I did not experience that here. But have in other 4 - 5 star hotels. I asked to see the room before checking in. They said no. And showed me a picture. |The first room was renovated but the carpet was filthy and there was a roll down shade with a lot of visible black mold. |I showed the maid and she laughed. I called the desk and a manager named Martin came to my room (906). He rolled up the shade to hide the mold. I explained that the mold smell is bad for health. He sniffed it and said he couldn’t smell anything then expressed surprise that mold affected health.|The maid suggested I move to room 908, which had no visible mold. The carpet smelled of stale cigarettes but I opened the window.martin said this was a non smoking room. |I barely slept as there was so much cigarette smoke wafting in during the night. I moved the next day. Martin said the entire 9 th floor is smoke free but people break the rules. |The pretty carpets are in desperate need of cleaning to improve air quality. With this and making sure people don’t have to look at mold, these rooms would be really nice for the price. Good decor and perfect location. |Employees should be educated on addressing...
