We stayed for just one night at Shenzhen in the end of December 2018 and were booked in this hotel as part of our tour. After a hectic day doing the touristy thing around Shenzhen in bitterly cold weather, we were finally taken to the hotel late evening totally exhausted and cold. The front desk staff were quite courteous and spoke some English. The first disappointment came when we were allotted our room and there were no bell boys available to take our luggage to our room. We has to physically drag our own heavy suitcases through a lobby to the lifts and then onward, down a long corridor to finally our room. Really strange, considering that this is supposed to be a 4 star hotel! This left a bad taste in our mouths, more so, since we were very tired. But there was more in store for us. The room was a small one, having the basic furniture and stuff and very dimly lit. The light was however sufficient to see a few creepy insects crawling around near the beds. ||||Sadly, the housekeeping staff don’t understand a word of English. When we requested a few bottles of water, the lady bought the bottles but insisted on receiving money up front (usually, it’s just added to the bill) and exact change, which we didn’t have. The following conversation was quite amusing, with sign language being the mode of conversation, with dismal results. Finally out of frustration, we told her to keep the balance as a tip and waved her away (to our pleasant surprise, the lady came back after a while, with the balance money. Kudos to her honesty). The hotel staff need to be conversant with at least the rudiments of English, to be able to give good service.||||Breakfast which was complimentary was the only meal we had in the hotel. It was served in the basement and for veg eaters, let me warn you that you have to be ready for bread jam and fruit, because there was really nothing else. There is a Indian restaurant in the hotel which apparently serves Indian meals, but opens after 10 am. Thankfully for us, there is a good veg joint just around the corner and so starvation was averted. ||||The Location of the Hotel is quite convenient...very close to the Luohu Shopping Centre. ||||Overall, the experience wasn’t such...
Read moreThis is my 2nd stay in Century Plaza Hotel. Here are the pros and cons:||||||Pros:||1. The price and location is excellent. It is located in a commercial district and near Luohu complex and many shopping malls nearby. The price is good too. It is like 3 times lower than Shangrila. ||||2. The gym is big. You get all the latest gym equipment. The only challenge is getting there which requires you to take the correct lift and navigate through the dark corridors.||||3. There are some English channels like Cinemax and MTV.||||4. There is a good variety of food with Indian food and Chinese Laurel Restaurant. ||||5. The vehicle services are quite affordable compared to other hotels.||||6. There is a tea wholesaler just behind the hotel. You can buy good tea from the hotel. ||||||Cons||||1. The hotel looks old and dated. The furniture is in urgent need of improvement.||||2. The wifi is very slow and unreliable.||||3. The shower gel is a bit bland.||||4. My advice is to skip the food offering. There are better offerings in Shangrila's Shang Palace for around the same price just a short 5 mins walk away.||||In conclusion, this is a good value for money hotel for short stays. It does look aged as the hotel is old. But short stays are good as you will probably be away for the whole day. So the old facilities does not matter. For food, try Shang Palace at Shangrila as you will enjoy same quality food at sometimes...
