It was a pleasant stay at Ramada Encore Kunming Guandu! I have a young toddler aged 27MO & elderly parents above 70YO & we loved our stay here. Prices are reasonable & really value-for-money (each room was ~ S$50 or RMB260/ night during this off-peak period. We were here in mid-Nov 2024). We were able to get a free upgrade to the 40m2 Theatre King Rooms, which are really very spacious - great for us as we had many bulky luggages. The hotel also has washing machine+dryer in the common area. Some noteworthy details (+):- Very new, clean and spacious rooms!- One of the main benefits of staying here was because we had an early HSR train to catch, and this hotel is super near Kunming Railway Station. Our Didi ride took less than 5 mins (we could have walked but we had too many luggages & a young toddler with us). - Our rooms did not have any cigarette smoke smell.- Dyson or equivalent hair dryer.- Projector screen TV, wow!- Air humidifier was a plus because the air is really dry here in Yunnan.- It was also really very considerate of the hotel to provide our toddler with children’s toiletries & bedroom slippers.- Quite a number of small eateries around. There is a beef noodles shop located at the ground floor of the next building which serves pretty good noodles at affordable prices! If the food is too spicy or salty for your liking, let the staff know and they would gladly whip up something suitable for you.Cons (-)- Not that many supermarkets around. There was one Sheng Siong supermarket nearby.- There is no direct drop-off point. Our drivers could only drop us off at the main road and we had to drag our heavy luggages to the hotel. This is not a concern if you don’t have big...
Read moreVery helpful and lovely reception desk which made me feel welcomed immediately. As it was low season, they upgraded our rooms to a larger one. Thank you. Location wise, they are located within a cluster of other buildings and hotels. Unlike conventional hotel, they do not have their own driveway unfortunately and the main road in front of the hotel (Youping road) isn't ideal for dropping people off nor allowed cars to hang around. That means our car had to alight us about 5 mins away and we were left to fend for ourselves navigating the area in the rain. If you have large heavy luggages or elderly and children to manage, it is advisable to ring them up in advance for direction advise. As we were international guests, we had some issues locating the hotels in the cold rain. Oh well. On the upside, helpful staff, great rooms, well-equipped with everything that you need, simple buffet breakfast. They even helped packed our last day breakfast as we have to catch an early train at the Kunming train station which is about 5-10 mins walk away. The walk is manageable even with my elderly parents but I suggest you do a quick check of the route beforehand as it is a bit of maze in Kunming city. If it rains, it could be troublesome. Fortunately, the rain stopped on the morning we had to leave. Overall, I appreciate the professionalism of this hotel. Plenty of eateries and convenient shops in the area. Lots of flower biscuit shops too for any last minute souvenir purchases and there's also a...
Read moreGood base if you are transiting to other parts of Yunnan via Kunming Railway station to Dali or Lijiang.
Location: The hotel is very new and doesn’t provide airport transfer services to and from but not much of an issue as transport are aplenty at the airport and to airport if you have didi app.
It also has self service washing machines (including detergent!), dryers as well as standing garment iron in the laundry room. Good for travellers and folks on business trips.
Food: Did not try their breakfast but there are also a 24/7 supermarket selling fresh produce, breads, instant foods and beverages nearby and a variety of restaurants/food shops nearby that open relatively late. There is also the railway station offerings such as Dicos, KFC etc that open around 6+/7am for breakfast in the railway station if you are catching a train early in the morning and want to get there ahead of time if concerned of the line at the...
