Here is my review on Yak Hotel: - ||||Staying the first 2 nights and also the last 2 nights with reasonable room and of coz it is not perfect and the best but personally it is OK as per understanding of Tibet standard and also the budget option. I was given a 4 single bedroom as I choose dormitory option for the tour but I still occupy the room by myself even thou it is weird on the room dormitory as it provide the room key and I can lock the room door. Considering the budget option and my expectation of budget is even lower standard.||||Hotel Environment: Hotel look new and it is just opposite the street to Johkang temple with good choice of fast food and local food. The buffet breakfast at the hotel is basic and the shared bathroom is not sharing concept but only 1 person bath or use at a time. It could be a disastrous if someone use it very long. Conclusion the hotel is not a dormitory style and carefully thought of this for the backpacker option. ||||There are some beef noodle and locals restaurant next to the hotel along the street for the more adventure travelers.||||Hotel Service & Staff: Staff overall is OK and I did not encounter any uneasy and rude situation. It was a pleasant stay. ||||Room comfort: Room is modern and comfortable with an internet TV with various movie and drama to choose. The thick blanket feeling not so clean in my first impression but I don’t feel any itchiness and bad experience. So...
Read moreI don’t often write reviews but I would not wish this hotel upon other travelers in this otherwise fantastic city. Apart from being centrally located, this hotel has little to offer and suffers from a lack of cleanliness. There are open garbage cans and Large flies and mosquitoes everywhere. As you make your way past them, they often follow you into the room. The breakfast room and the breakfast itself had a lot of flies sitting and buzzing around. |The cleaning service was appalling. They never once changed the sheets or removed dirty towels in the five days I stayed here. The toilet was also never cleaned. The staff don’t speak any English at all and there is no way of communicating with them from your room, even in an emergency. |This is an old hotel, but it also has not been kept up. The shower, with very little water pressure even on the second floor, had a loose handle which would swivel on its own during the shower, alternately scalding and then chilling the gather. Though reported, this was never fixed or another...
Read moreOne night only at the Yak Hotel or should I say the Yuk Hotel.||||We are in a tour group and this is another Hotel which is run down but seems typical of Tibet. Our room is on the second floor and the staff carried our bags up for us as we are in our 60's and they took pity on us which was very nice. The high altitude of this city (3,900m) it is draining just walking up 2 flights of stairs was tiring.||||During the afternoon our toilet leaked over the bathroom floor so we had to relocate rooms. Apart from a better bathroom in the new room we have two broken lights (making the room very dark) and no working power points in the main room.||||It was close to walk around the town to some things...
