Tibet Gang-gyan Lhasa Hotel is just off Beijing Road, the main road through Lhasa. There is a quiet courtyard with parking in front of the hotel. It is a short walk into the next street for the Barkhor Street area leading to Jokhang Temple. Potala Palace is a walk of about 20 minutes. There are many restaurants, shops and a shopping centre nearby. ||The location is the best bit about the hotel. It is four star in this area but not what many international tourists would expect for 4 stars.||Receptionists spoke simple English and were polite. There is a shop off the foyer which has souvenirs, jewellery, postcards, food and drinks. As expected in a hotel, the prices are high. Safety deposit is available at reception. There was no room safe. Rooms at the back of the hotel are reached down long dark corridors.||The room was of a reasonable size and the en-suite shower room was adequate. The shower produced only a trickle but it was warm. On a cold night the room did not really warm up. Toiletries and snacks are available in the room and clearly priced. There is no free bottled water in the room but there is a kettle and green tea.||Buffet breakfast is just adequate with Western and Chinese options, including butter milk tea. The dining room was cold.||This hotel is a bit shabby, but much what would be expected for a facility which seems to mainly cater for tour groups staying for a few nights only. Functional, safe...
Read moreThis is a four star hotel in the centre of Lhasa near to Jokhang Temple, Ramoche Temple and Barkhor Street. It is in busy part of the city with plenty of shops and eateries around. I had Lhasa fast food and drink which was very tasty. |The hotel has 170 rooms, both western & more luxurious Tibetian style rooms. Front row of rooms near to the street are nice and quiet at night. We stayed in the rear wing too, which has long dark corridors. The west wing said to have views of Potala Palace but it is not an unmissable view.|Our room had spacious bedroom, small bathroom with jacuzzi shower. Water, snacks pot meals in room clearly priced. Kettle to boil water for tea, coffee. |Boiling water, then cooling, is perfectly safe to drink. No need for bottled water. |No safe in rooms. Valuables to be left at reception. Good internet connection. Password on wall next to TV. |Breakfast; good choices of Tibetan including fresh fruits and western too. Butter tea is an every day essential Tibetan food which I enjoyed very much. You can add barley, sugar and yak cheese which are kept next to it. It is not liked by all, bit...
Read moreI had been advised that 3 star in lhasa would not be equivalent to 3 star elsewhere. This did not worry me as I have used hostels often in the past, I was however expecting the worst. I was very pleasantly surprised! The hotel had good facilities was clean and well maintained. The room was large and clean with a good selection of furniture ( writing desk, couch, easy chair, bed side tables, large cupboard, coffee table, stylish lamps) and facilities. Towels, flannels, gown, slippers, and cosmetics were all in the room at no extra cost. Bed was firm but large and comfortable to my taste. As expected the usual kettle, mini fridge, and snacks and drinks were available in the room, snacks and drinks were priced individually but the pricing was very reasonable. The air con worked fine, shower did not struggle for hot water and had 3 outlet options. I am...
