Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao offers a well-maintained, business-focused hotel experience with spacious rooms and generous lounge facilities, ideal for those travelling through Hongqiao Airport or the nearby high-speed railway station. The hotel attracts a primarily Chinese guest mix, but international travellers can feel comfortable once settled in.
The lobby creates a good first impression with its airy, marble-clad design, lounge seating, and central floral arrangements. Check-in was efficient in terms of process, though the initial interaction revealed that the front desk staff could benefit from better training, particularly in handling elite member requests. Fortunately, when this was brought to management's attention, they took the matter seriously and quickly resolved it.
The stay included a complimentary upgrade to a Premier Room, which offered noticeably more space than the standard category. The room had a clean, modern look with wood floors, large windows, and a comfortable seating area. The bathroom stood out with its freestanding bathtub positioned by the window, offering city views, along with marble finishes and a spacious layout. A welcome amenity with fresh fruit and macarons was waiting on the table, which added a thoughtful touch.
Breakfast is clearly designed with the local market in mind, featuring Chinese options such as congee, stir-fried noodles, steamed buns, and hot dishes. Western staples like eggs, pastries, fruit, and coffee are available, though the selection is more limited compared to full-service properties in other parts of the world. The main restaurant provides a wider buffet but tends to be busy, while the Executive Lounge offers a quieter setting with more personal service and a smaller but sufficient selection for breakfast.
The Executive Lounge also provides a generous evening reception that exceeded expectations. A full dinner buffet with hot Chinese dishes, steamed dumplings, sushi, salads, cheeses, and a variety of desserts was available. Drinks, juices, and a good assortment of light bites were neatly presented, making it an ideal place to relax after a busy day. From previous stays at other hotels in China, this level of food and beverage offering in the lounge appears to be a standard expectation, but it still adds considerable value compared to lounges elsewhere.
The hotel’s location is practical for business or transit, given the close proximity to Hongqiao Airport and high-speed rail. Getting to Shanghai’s main tourist attractions takes about an hour by car, so the location may not suit those focused on sightseeing.
Despite the minor issue at check-in, service throughout the hotel was friendly and responsive, especially once management got involved. The rooms are comfortable and spacious, the facilities well maintained, and the Executive Lounge offerings stand out. For business travellers or those in transit through the Hongqiao area, Hilton Shanghai Hongqiao delivers a reliable and...
Read moreMy 5D4N stay was pleasant and satisfying. Firstly, the Shanghai Pudong airport pickup arranged by concierge was good and effective, the driver was polite, and his driving was safe. The car arranged was big enough for me and my colleagues. ||The check-in at the front desk was efficient. I loved the fact that gold member was valued, and my special upgrade request was looked into. My room was upgraded to the new wing of the hotel with newly refurbished room. The room is huge with walk-in wardrobe. The bathroom is huge with bathtub as well. Hotel WiFi is stable and fast, no issue in my internet connection and access. The bed and sofa were both comfortable. ||The downsides are the working table and chair which are not the ergonomic type for desk work, it is only a simple table (looks like more suitable for dining than work) and normal chair. Also, there is no universal power socket designed for all power points in the room. They are still using the local (China) power socket design which requires universal travel adapter for my case. ||The location of the hotel is just average. There is no happening shopping mall nearby nor shopping street. The nearest food street is Laowai Jie (Foreigner Street) which is a street with restaurants serving different cuisine (Western, Indian, Thai, Oriental, Mediterranean and etc.), which is about 1.5 km walk from the hotel. There is a small mall which is just 300m away from the hotel (turn left from the hotel lobby by walking) provides some dining options as well (like Korean, Tim Horton cafe, Thai and others).||The hotel has an indoor swimming pool and tennis court which is amazing. There is also a 24-hour gym available. Unfortunately, I could not spare any time to use these facilities. The breakfast at hotel lobby was great, many choices and huge...
Read moreI used to stay here many years ago, when the property owner was YuanYi Group. During that period, the hotel has left me with a wonderful staying experience. So I chose this hotel when I was about to revisit this neighborhood recently. ||Unfortunately, I'm disappointed with my recent stay, which shows a significant decline in quality compared to my experience from a few years ago.||The primary issue appears to be the hotel's excessive staff reduction and efficiency measures, resulting in several service failures:||1. Maintenance Issues: Due to engineering staff cuts, the soundproofing rubber seals around the windows were damaged and left unrepaired. Additionally, the air conditioning filters weren't properly cleaned or replaced.||2. Room Service Deficiencies: Despite multiple requests, the complimentary welcome fruit basket arrived at 11 PM—a full three hours later than expected. Furthermore, while I was still sleeping at 10:30 AM, the housekeeping staff repeatedly rang my doorbell, seemingly rushing to complete their cleaning duties.||3. Most Concerning: The housekeeping department is using extremely harsh cleaning agents in the bathroom (toilet and shower areas). The chemical smell was so irritating to make me fall asleep — something I haven't encountered even in budget hotels.||In sum, this experience falls well below the standards expected.||Afterwards, when i was communicating the matter with hotel management and got their response. they offered me "free room upgrade for the next visit" --- which is definitely not I want. coz I am already a diamond member which is entitled to room upgrades. I understand the hotel management staff has limited resources but this is definitely an issue...
