This is easily my favorite Marriott property. The staff are really the highlights of this great property. Very responsive and eager to anticipate your needs. Having visited this property for nearly two years, I am amazed at the consistency of service.
The bell staff, concierge, and the front desk set the tone. Excellent, friendly, efficient service. They put you in a good mood to start off. The management monitors things and do take a personal interest in you - new or return customer.
Very nice rooms - very spacious with great lighting, nice amenities, nice personal touches when you are a repeat guest. I do wonder about the cream sachets that they provide. I would personally prefer a milk powder based creamer like they do in other parts of the world. Refrigeration of these and shelf-life of these little items are things that hotels all over the world tend to forget.
The lounge is a nice little haven especially when you are done with a hard day of work. It does tend to get a bit loud - as do all such places - when there is an exhibition or expo in Shenzhen. They have upped the evening hors d'oevure service with a make-to-order service.
Breakfast is a glorious affair in the restaurant. I wish that I had time to enjoy it. Nice compact service in the lounge which I personally prefer as I get the custom-made eggs (spicy scrambled eggs) and the breads that I want. There is a wonderful seafood buffet for dinner - a bit pricey - but everybody swears by it.
The gym is nicely laid out and they clean up immediately after it is used. It is important for travelers as even a small bug can make a trip less effective.
The bar staff is great and like all the staff in the hotel very good with English.
The Quon spa is pricey but apparently the market is there for it. The massage therapists are among the best in China. I was a bit skeptical at first but the 45 kg lady generates as much power as my 80 kg male therapist in the US.
Pool is outdoor so the AM pollution can get to you sometimes but it is nicely located. It is also a bit tiny (breadth wise). Ideally, it would be about twice as broad and at least 50% longer. At least it is not one of those weird shapes that discourage lap swims.
In summary - nice property, great...
Read moreSpent a night in the JW Marriot Futian before going back to HK for the new year Count Down.||This hotel is easily accessible if you arrive by Hi-speed rail and only one metro stop from the Futian station. The hotel was renovated in 2020 (so I heard) so the interior decor looked nice and modern. The room was spacious and came with a large bath tub. Bed and pillows were comfortable.||We were really satisfied until when we came back from dinner in the evening, and then we started to notice some low frequency humming noises followed by high pitch thumping noise every 6 seconds. This pattern persisted late until we could no longer bear and called the front desk. They sent someone to the room who said this was due to the construction site which was quite far away. ||So we spoke to the front desk and they offered to find us another room. Before they came back the noise stopped at about 2230 and so we did not take the switch as we were too tired to move.... So at last we had some peace and quiet but not until 600 am in the morning when the workers started working again. (The noise was so bad that not even my earplugs could block them)||I appreciated the staff helpfulness in handling the situation reactively but they could be more proactive and gave me a room on the other side if they knew about that in the first place (not that they didn't have any spare rooms) especially when i had requested for a quieter floor (of course i know most would ignore these special requests) - oh....and not to mention my room was quite close to the elevator shaft.||There were also some other minor faults like you had to open the shower door before you could open the toilet door because the shower door was slightly longer and the sealing edge was blocking the toilet door from opening. (and the shower door was heavy as well) but these were just minor design oversights.||Breakfast was good with plenty of choices but that was expected from a 5* hotel in China. I guess the more special theme would be the Hong Kong foods, like pineapple bun and Hong Kong milk tea.||Overall I think the hotel is a nice 5* hotel if you get the right room or wait until the construction has finished. (I think they definitely had a...
Read moreI had a dinner planned with a colleague nearby and I had the afternoon free during my daytrip from Hong Kong so I looked around the area for a spa. This one had decent reviews on Dianping and a couple special offers that made the price look pretty good. 680RMB for 90 min Thai massage, 380 for 60 min foot and back massage, etc. I made a booking for the next day.||When I arrived, the front desk quickly sent me to a room, and told me to wait. A dressed up sales lady came in with a menu and told me that the Thai massage special was only for women, and that I can pick a different massage from their menu. Their regular price for a 90 min massage is 2000RMB, almost 3x the original price! They also have cheaper massages that are members only, and that those I can only access by buying a 8000RMB package for 10 massages. We spent a good 15 mins going back and forth and at this point I was ready to leave when she offered a "special" price for one of the hour long massages and I relented.||When asked about the Marriott Bonvoy Asia benefits such as an "extended spa treatment" and points earning, they said they have no idea what that is and that they already waive the service fee for me.||The massage itself is honestly not that great, and the service is trash. I speak decent Chinese and nobody went over the massage process or anything afterwards. The sales lady told me to shower and pointed to the bathroom. A separate masseuse came in and gave the massage and left on the dot for 1 hour. There was a cup of cold tea in the room from the start and some snacks on the table that I assumed was mine so I took a sip and left.||They also don't take international credit cards! We had to wait in line downstairs for the front desk to process my payment. ||As I understand, this spa is contracted out to some third party and was very empty on a Saturday afternoon. Avoid at all costs and shame for Marriott to allow this kind of spa to be associated...
