GreenTree Alliance Shenzhen Shekou Sea World Hotel — Hotel in Shenzhen

I chose this hotel because of its proximity to the brewpubs in Shekou and the Shuiwan metro station across the street. I was very happy with my choice since there were many restaurants, kiosks, and food carts in the immediate vicinity of the hotel, as well as shops, two supermarkets, and the bars on Haichang Street. The popular Sea World entertainment area is also within easy walking distance. ||||I booked a King Bed Room for 7 nights via Agoda. Check-in was relatively straightforward, even though the staff spoke little English. All you need to do is say "rùzhù" – the Chinese for "check in" – to the front desk staff, give them your passport and hotel voucher, and they will complete the formalities. I was given a key card for a room on the eighth floor. To take the elevator to your floor, you need to swipe the key card. One thing different from the other hotels I stayed in, you have to pay a 100 RMB deposit for the key card.||||Upon entering, the room smelled musty, likely from the humidity. There was an interior window that let some light in from a shaft of some sort, but there wasn't a view. Housekeeping was in the habit of keeping this window open, likely to air out the room. However, when I was in the room and turned the air conditioner on, I closed the window to more efficiently keep the room temperature at 25°C. The odour would then disappear.||||The room was spacious enough to contain a king-size bed, side tables, desk, chair, and an open wardrobe. The room was well-maintained by housekeeping with daily bedding and linen changes. The air conditioner and plumbing worked properly, however, the glass shower door leaked, so would soak the bathroom mat. This is not unusual in China, even in more upscale hotels. The desk chair did not seem adjustable and would lower below the level of the desk comfortable for typing on a laptop. Instead, I sat my computer on my lap to adjust accordingly.||||The room had free wifi with the password noted on the desk. Two complimentary bottles of water were provided each day for drinking or making tea/coffee in the room's electric kettle. Two reusable mugs were available for drinking. There was no minibar. If you wanted to chill any drinks, you would have to come up with a solution or just buy refrigerated drinks from the nearby stores.||||If the focus of your stay in Shenzhen is the Shekou area, I would highly recommend this hotel if you are seeking a budget option that is clean, comfortable, and conveniently located. If you intend to spend much time in the Futian area, note that it is at least 45 minutes away by subway, so you would be advised to find accommodations in that...

Ideal location with easy access to just about everything. Plenty of stores, bars and restaurants just outside, easy access to taxis and the Metro just across the road for those slightly further distances.||||Rooms are good for the price, although make sure you are given what you have booked and paid for.... they seem to think it is ok to keep taking walk-in bookings and when you arrive later in the evening for your pre-booked and paid for reservation (booked WELL in advance) for them to try and stick you in whatever pokey little hole they have left, and some of the cheap rooms are SMALL. They apologise profusely and say that you can move the next day, but stick to your guns and demand what you have booked and PAID for, their problem not yours, and funnily enough you usually get sorted (even if you have to take two single beds instead of a king size). It is always cheaper too to book online than take the over the counter price, even if you do the booking sat in the lobby!||||Assuming no issues with getting your room (always TRY and get a high one due to external noise), the rooms are very good. Some of the basics are missing on the normal rooms, ie fridge, room safe, etc but are in the higher priced rooms.||||Hotel frequently takes travel parties which is a pain if you are trying to get to your room when they are checking-in (only one lift, limited capacity) plus sometimes they can be a little noisy well into the night with no thought of other guests trying to sleep. Stayed here for two periods during our recent visit. I like this place due to its ideal location and it's ease of getting everywhere. It is reasonably priced and the rooms are reasonable... ||||First visit. Arrived to find that the room we had booked WEEKS previously wasn't available. The person in the room needed to stay an extra night but refused to change room so all of a sudden it became our problem! So our family room booked became a large room with one large bed and a "put-me-up" bed! Stayed there the 4 nights we were there as couldn't be bothered to move all the luggage!||||Second visit. Room was available but spent the first night melting as the air con wasn't working. Spoke about it to reception the following morning who said they would check it out and then show us how to use the air con controls! Durr..... I know how to use air con! When back in the hotel they told us it was indeed broken and we could either move room or wait for the engineer to fix the air con, but they didn't know when he would be coming.... we opted to move. Unfortunately there was no room of the same standard available and so we opted to take two single rooms instead (which we checked out and tested the air con before accepting) although we had to pay the price difference, not even any discount as we were moving due to them and their hotel defects.||||Whilst I do like this hotel and it's location, and it's staff who I think are great, I think we will be looking for a different hotel for our next stay in Shekou as we seem now to have issues on every visit.||||Rating would have been much lower but for the staff who did the...
