If you're familiar with IBIS hotels, you won't find anything out of the ordinary about this particular property. It's got all the standard, basic IBIS features. If you're not, then you'll find a clean(ish), inexpensive, comfortable property with few frills in central Xiamen.||||The hotel is a stone's throw from the central railway station and an easy walk from the station. However, it's a long trek from either the airport or the North Railway Station, both of which will take you over an hour on public transport, although the 950 bus connects the hotel & the North station virtually door-to-door. The hotel is located on the very, very busy main road that cuts through the centre of Xiamen and crossing it is not easy. You can only do it by a few subway paths close to the station or by elevated walkways which are placed about every quarter of a mile. If you've got luggage etc and end up on the wrong side of the road, you won't find it easy to cross at all.||||The hotel staff have virtually no English skills at all, so have your translator app handy. The reception is small, but there is a comfortable seating area and a small cafe, where breakfast is served. However, this is always an additional cost and is not included in the rates. ||||There's only one elevator to the sleeping rooms, with some actually on the ground floor behind reception. I'm sure they must be noisy. The elevator is very slow. I saw three different rooms as the first had a broken window that would not shut; the second was a smoking room and the third was where I ended up on the 7th floor. The corridors really need vacuuming and clearly are not cleaned every day. In fact, they weren't vacuumed at all during my three nights.||||The room is the basic IBIS offering, with comfortable beds, clean linens, kettle, tea, water and flat screen TV. The free WIFI is very reliable. However, there was a mild stench of sewage in the bathroom which was not pleasant. Otherwise, the rooms are clean enough. The towels were getting old and were a little stained.||||The location is great for the station, but not much else. You'll be busing or taking taxis to what Xiamen has to see. There are a LOT of fast food and shopping malls close to the hotel if you want to shop and eat McDonalds, but not much in the way of good local food. The hotel has self service laundry.||||IBIS always offer good rates for basic comfort and although this property could do with some spit and polish, it's a perfectly...

Read moreThis is my second time to stay at the Ibis @ Xiamen. Last time everything seemed very good, the location was good, staffs were friendly and the food around the hotel were good too.||But not this time. We went there just after the typhoon in September, 2016. People there told us that that was a very big storm with a 15th lever wind power. What we saw when we landed at the Xiamen airport was NOTHING but people all around. NOTHING means nothing, no airport bus nor taxi. A long queue at the taxi stand. We spent 1.5hr to waiting for a taxi. People around means a lot of people in the airport. A lot of eople at the airport is nothing special, but a lot of people without luggage or bags in the airport was strange! People there sat on the ground, patiently sitting there for only one reason - use the airport's sockets to charge their handphones.||When we finally reached the Ibis that we booked ahead, the receptionist told us that there was no electricity there. And, because it was a weekend, their senior management was on leave, they did not have any advice for us on HOW to stay at a hotel without electricity. Without electricity also equal to without water supply. Can't survive with the smell coming from the bathroom.||The was friendly staff was not friendly now. The helpfulness and their smiles were being blown away by the typhoon.||I know nobody wants to have a strong typhoon to affect their business, but the management does not do anything to help their customers definitely means they do not treasure their customers.||Don't want to stay...
