The Hilton Garden Inn Barranquilla left little to be desired from this great hotel company. Being a Hilton Honors member I expected more from this hotel. While the staff (except for 2 people in particular-see below) was very attentive to us, there just seemed to be some issues that affected our stay. The first thing was that while our room was ready- it wasn't cleaned very well. It was dirty in fact. Seems as if the housekeeping staff brooms everything under the bed. The safe was locked (but security came up and fixed it right away for us- again the staff was excellent). The bedspread had rips in it from being overwashed (instead of just replacing it)and there was a random toothbrush under the sink. Now we weren't sure whether that was for cleaning or someone left it there. There was a hole in the wall behind the door and in the bathroom door too. Also, because there were 3 of us staying in the room, the staff didn't leave sheets for the sofa bed. Sebastian quickly resolved that issue for us. The front desk staff- Sebastian and Maria Jose were great to deal with, the servers at the Garden Grille and Bar were great too-specifically Jhon and Juan. This hotel is close by the mall area-Buena Vista Commercial Center-Barranquilla and can be easily reached by a quick walk. There is a pool on the 3d floor that closes at 6pm (on the weekdays and 9 on weekends- but the sign on the wall says otherwise). There is food and beverage service at the pool (provided by the Garden Grille) but the server wasn't world-class. As a matter of fact, she asked for a bigger tip- which was a bit much. She said they don't get their 10%tips and was trying to get us to give more than the standard 10%tip added to the bill- which is standard across the board. The bellman at the door asked for a larger tip too- which I thought was a bit forward. I rated this hotel a 3 because I expected more from Hilton. I've stayed at other HGI before in the US and have given far better reviews. The next time we travel to Colombia we will think twice about staying at a Hilton hotel because of...
Read moreA wonderful experience. From the very first time I set foot into the hotel I was happy. The employees are all very friendly. The front desk is accommodating for any issue or question. The housekeeping staff was also incredible. On most days at any given time, you’ll find them somewhere on your floor working and approachable. Don’t forget to tip these people! What might only be a few dollars to you could be a few days wages for them! And they are all hard working and deserve it. The rooms are very nice. We stayed in a standard room and it was more than satisfactory for us. Or other travel companions stayed in a room that was identical to ours but larger. Another couple stayed in (I don’t know the titles of these rooms) a much larger room with a separate privacy wall as you come in and a different layout. And the final couple stayed next to us in an end unit that must’ve been their suite. Very large. Queen size bed, nice desk layout. Each room had a walk in shower. Big bathroom. There’s a gym and a nice exterior pool on the third floor. And don’t bring a room towel to the pool! The life guard will supply you with one. There’s a casino attached to the hotel on the right hand side if you want to lose all the money you’ve been saving on this trip (again- very nice employees but I’m not sure if they’re hotel staff). And finally- the attached building directly to the right of the hotel (and accessible during the day if you cut through the casino) contains a grocery store. Which was very convenient. And a shirt walking distance away is a huge...
Read moreA little of my experience at the Hilton GardenInn Barranquilla on April 07, 2021:
Initially I got assigned a room that was already taken by someone else or there was someone in the room when I went to my room. The door was locked from inside. They helped me at the front desk to get another room. The second room that I got assigned was recently sprayed with insecticide earlier that day, apparently was a room that was supposed to be closed to the public, but somehow got assigned to me, the smell was very penetrating and definitely was not a safe environment to stay. They helped me again at the front desk to get another room. The staff at the front desk apologized and assigned a third room to me, this time I left my belongings in the room, turned on the AC, and left to explore the city, upon my arrival in the evening, there was water leaking from the AC unit, the problem seems to be old because there is already changes in the paint of the walls by water damage. The noise of the water leak was unbearable, so I requested another room.
Apparently, the maintenance of the building is very poor or my impression is that the quality of room inspections prior to the assignment is insufficient. But I must emphasize that staff is very polite and extremely friendly.
Unfortunately, I do not recommend this hotel. But I will keep you updated...
