Casa Torices Real — Hotel in Cartagena

We arrived from the airport at 4:00 am and the staff member was friendly and checked us in quickly so we could go get some rest. The room had a weird bad smell, but we were so tired we just fell asleep after a cold shower. At 7:00 am we woke up from the heat, as there was no electricity in the neighborhood (not the hostels fault I guess). I went to the pool to cool off as the fan in our room wasn't working. (Of course the wifi was also not working) I asked at the front desk- when do you think the electricity will come back up? And the guy answered with quite an attitude "it's not my fault". Finally around 13:00 pm the electricity came back, but we had already decided to leave this hostel and go somewhere else. And thwy gave us back the money for the second night, which was great. We booked this hostel through Hostelworld mainly because of the nice pool in the pictures described on their site. When we arrived there in the evening, we were told that the pool was under maintenance and when we asked if we can get a discount as there was no pool like they said, we got told by the staff that if we don’t like it, we can just cancel our booking and go. We we’re super tired, so we agreed to stay. The outside area is nice and spacious. The kitchen was really not that clean. Also there was no water provided or any kind of services, other than they cleaned our room while we were away, which was nice. Somehow though 2 pairs of my earrings disappeared from our room while we were away. The staff was not very helpful in finding them and I didn’t even get an apology. Not a nice experience. This hotel was just perfect! The pool is absolutely gorgeous, super clean and huge. Our room was fabulous, the bed was super comfortable and clean with big bath towels, the shower was powerful we even had Netflix on the tv (you need your own account) 2 comfortable pillows on the bed, the air con worked perfectly and we had no problems with the wifi. You’ll need to get a taxi into centro but we didn’t mind as we chose this hotel for a 5 day stay of relaxing so didn’t need to visit the centre much. Staff were all fab! Would highly recommend!
