Hotel Casa de Hadas — Hotel in Magdalena

Beautiful location as long as you are well protected against mosquitos! Our room small but clean. No shower door or curtain and the main doors have big gaps at the bottom that allow bugs to crawl in all night long. Service at the restaurant was non existent. We had to ask for menus and then had to go to the kitchen to order our food. My friend had the Pinchos (kabobs) and I had pasta marinera. Both of us found sand in our food. If you have a dog, forget it. They have two large Akitas that are very aggressive towards other dogs. We kept ours on a leash but the management did not keep their dogs on a leash. One young man at the front counter was kind enough to take the dogs in the back room so we could enter and exit the premises. the second day there was another young man that refused to put a leash on the dogs or take them to a back room - even after repeated requests from me - insisting that it would be ok. As we tried to exit, the akitas attacked our dog and we barely made it out without any blood being drawn, but our dog did suffer a bite on his hip. We just spent 3 nights here and loved it. The room was fine, very spotless with offers from the maids to clean every morning. We got a peaceful sleep, especially with the sound of the river. It was hot in Minca so the cold shower is refreshing. The setting is beautiful by the river. Lots of colourful birds and hummingbirds constantly visiting the feeders. The breakfast that was included was excellent; lots of fruit, a choice of homemade breads, pancakes, waffles and eggs with delicious hot chocolate, teas and coffee. The coffee is very good especially the cappuccino served later in the day. We ate lunch and dinner in their restaurant, all good. I recommend the nachos and their cocktails are excellent. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We got all our laundry washed and dried for 10,000cop a kilo. Lots to do in the area if you like the outdoors. I can recommend the Cacao Tour at La Finca Candeleria and hiking to various waterfalls and viewpoints. We hiked unguided and saw monkeys and dozens of exotic birds. There are lots of nice bars and restaurants in Minca all walkable. I would definitely recommend...

Booked via Booking.com which largely had great reviews but sadly we were very disappointed with our stay here. |The hotel has some great points - it’s a lovely location alongside the river. A lot of the decor is nicely done, you can see they’ve put effort in, and there’s a lot of open space for socialising/relaxing outside of your room. |However we found the room disappointing - cold water only which I guess wasn’t too bad. However the balcony doors did not lock. The main door and the balcony door had significant gaps around their frame for insects to get through, and there was no mosquito net in the room. |There was no room cleaning service. I appreciate there is often no need for this, especially on short trips, but in a country where you have to put soiled toilet paper in the bin this isn’t ideal. We were there 4 days without it being emptied, and it was a small bin. |On booking.com the breakfasts get great reviews but we found them very very poor.
