General: I travelled to Manizales to participate in a trail run in the Parque Los Nevados. The hotel is located next to a sport complex, whose main venue is the Palo Grande Stadium (used by the local pro football team, Once Caldas). Thus, the hotel is in part used by visitors who go for sport events that take place in the complex; actually, the days I was hosted in, there were also runners for the same trail running I was about to participate and young artistic skaters (and their relatives) who were in a regional competition. In the first floor there is a restaurant managed by a third party.||Good for me: The trip from the intercity bus station to the hotel took just 15 min by taxi (I travelled from Bogota to Manizales by a public bus line). I chose this hotel due to the price and because it was close (4-5 blocks) to the meeting point the day the bus picked up the runners for the event very early in the morning; and it was safe to walk at that time (4 am). The last day prior to my travel from Bogota, I contacted the hotel to re-confirm my reservation made some weeks ago, but I was told there was no reservation; after I argued and proved my point, they solved it right away, and I got the room. I´ve got a spacious, clean room with a queen size bed, located in a 3rd floor; there was a good private bathroom, though no soap nor shampoo were provided; a large flat tv screen in the room was great for distraction. Staff was very friendly, supplying a good service. Around the hotel: there is a couple of shopping malls with food courts 5-6 blocks away; bars and medium to small size restaurants can be found some blocks away; some of the bars play loud music at night, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays when they close later, but when I was there, from my room it was like a sound at the distance, so that I fell to sleep well without noticing the time when they stopped it. There is public transportation (taxis and buses) available on the surrounding streets; the hotel helps in getting a taxi (which is advisable to be on the safe side), and the buses are easy to take. I used bus lines to go downtown, and also to go to a very special place nested in the mountain called Ecotermales El Otoño (1 h away natural hot springs pools, appropriate to recover after the trail running effort).||Not good for me: I could hear the next room conversations and tv noise very clear; however, the guests next door regularly stopped the noise when I needed silent the most, at night! On another hand, the wi-fi signal in the room was weak.||Remark: Walking around might be very exhausting, since Manizales is a hilly city and some streets...
Read moreI never actually stayed in this hotel but toured it with the owners, whom I had met earlier in the week and was playing tennis with later that day. The location is excellent! Just across the street from the clay tennis courts and the stadium. With all the activity around here I would say this is the heart of the local area, esp for people who are active and athletic. There is tennis, basketball, rollerblading, soccer/futbol, and more, just across the street. The owners of this hotel are so nice and very willing to please their guests. The rooms are simple and small but really you just need a place to crash, right? The building has a beautiful atrium in the middle, with a garden courtyard and sitting area. I didn't eat at the restaurant below but it seemed like the usual Colombian restaurant of the area: nothing fancy but all good. For those who love to play tennis or basketball or soccer, soccer/futbol fans or other sporty types, this location and these people couldn't be better. I...
Read moreThe group I came with to stay the night had a terrible experience. Some had the shower spill the water outside of the bathroom, some felt the bed covers dirty, some didn't have hot water in the showers and some had trouble sleeping because of the open window over the door frame. To top it all off, we realize the images here do not correspond to how the bedrooms...
