Just got back from 10 days at Sirius and wish we would have stayed longer. It is a simple hotel on a small island with minimal services so you have to set your expectations correctly before going. ||||The hotel only offers breakfast though there's plenty of restaurants along the beach or a few minutes away on the road. It helps to rent a scooter or a kawasaki mule (which they refer to as a car) to be able to get around easier.||||We stayed in one of the ocean facing rooms (Marte) in the main building and really enjoyed the balcony and hammock. There was only cold water in the shower though I discovered it warmed up in the afternoon after the day's sun. The room was large, comfortable, and clean. The a/c and small fridge worked well and the TV was nice to have at night. Our son stayed in one of the rooms in the separate long building and didn't have any complaints. either||||Paulino (who's the manager, not the owner) is friendly and helped coordinate various things and make recommendations. It was nice to rent a mini-car (off road style 4 wheel) to have transportation and Paulino helped me get a better rate.||||He also helped get me set-up with the Dive Center that's a separate business on the property. Daniele and his staff were great to work with to get my dive certification. I really enjoyed diving with the various dive masters and the ones who helped with with the diving skills were great and patient.||||It's true the hotel needs some painting and maintenance though I got the impression that Paulino does what he can with what the owner gives him. ||He doesn't typically hang around the reception area, so don't be shy about looking for him. If he's not in the immediate area, he may be in his house at up the hill (follow the stepping stones).||||Breakfast (from 8-9) was good though simple like everything there, with a good portion of eggs, bread, coffee or hot chocolate, juice, and water.||||Be sure to take mosquito spray and plenty...
Read moreBe aware that this is an island with very little facilities. I give this hotel five stars for the location and that it allows me to experience Providencia island as it really is. The rooms in the hotel are very large and as in some comments, they could be improved and refurbished, but after all they are comfortable and clean. Some of the issues like the pressure of the water are not unique to the hotel, but to the island.||||The view is amazing, you can see the sunset on the beach from the terrace of your room, PRICELESS. Sirius Dive is in the same property and it is extremely convenient if you want to dive, with sharks.||||Paulino is a great host and can help you with anything. He booked us a half-day tour with a boat to go around the island, see some kays and do snorkeling at a very reasonable price. You can negotiate a price if you go with other guests form the hotel instead of a private tour.||||At night it is safe to walk around, where you can reach a small town in 5-10 minutes behind the hotel. There are no bars or nothing to go out, just a mini market and a few houses.||||I have been there twice and will not...
Read moreAfter 1.5 days, and 6 dives, I can safely say that spending your time with Sirius Dive Shop in Providencia is a phenomenal way to make use of your time on the island. The dive leads (Andres was mine), are focused, attentive, and helpful. They also listened to requests regarding desired marine life and botany for dives. Although it had been a little over two years since my last dive, the shop made things easy by handling the majority of gear transport and preparation. As a result, I spent far more time enjoying the dives, and far less time worrying about whether or not I had remembered to attach all of the gear appropriately, which, given our limited time on the island, was much appreciated. Prices were also very reasonable w/ an afternoon double dive coming in around $220.000 COP per person (approx $60). Would definitely check this shop out if you find yourself...
