We arrived and were given the room underneath the property which I can only describe as a 'dungeon' or bunker (not shown in photos quite understandably). It has a kitchen and is fairly spacious, but would have happily traded size for better standard. I have no problem going basic especially when you're hardly in room but this was just unacceptable and depressing it literally made me want to leave straight away but it was late at night so we didn't have a choice. Nutshell... noisy, so out dated, bad location, yes it is cheap and perhaps it is fair for what you pay as most accom is quite expensive but I was very confused as all reviews were so positive. We may have just been given the worst room, I never saw them so I'm not sure but the photos certainly didn't give us an accurate idea of ours. Here's more detail for anyone intetested.||It is right on the corner of a busy intersection which traffic and beeping 24/7 and it's a 10-15 minute drive to beach and the centre so for me it wasn't exactly providing the 'San Andres' experience. ||The day after we asked if we could change rooms to one perhaps less noisy, however we were told the only other room available was also situated at the front of property so probably wouldn't make much difference (the room may have been a fraction nicer though). I was still set on finding an alternative as staying there the 4 nights we booked was not an option. So we went hunting.... most hotels were super expensive (over priced and out dated very surprising for us much like Waikiki) so I at least appreciated the fact that Miss Trinie was cheap. We ended up staying 2 nights (of the 4 we'd paid for) and very luckily hit the jackpot and found a private beach house in San Luis for a very reasonable price. Thanks to Cocoplum for finding for us. We ended up having whole house to ourselves for 1 week for a bit over $300 USD total... no comparison. Our holiday then began again and I then saw why people say you can stay in San Andres forever. Before that I was ready to get on a plane out of there. When we notified 'Miss Trinie' we were leaving they didn't ask why or if there was anything they could do considering we were leaving paid accommodation, their reaction was as if it was a frequent occurrence and they...
Read moreFirst of all I want to thank Nery, her sister and mom for the great service and hospitality. What makes this posada special is its history because its over 100 years old so don't expect a 5-star hotel. Staying at a posada means living in a home, not a hotel. However my room was always clean and the bed was pretty comfortable and Nery and her family always want to help you when you need something. Keep in mind that it's not close to the center, you can walk, which will take 15 minutes, or grab a moto(taxi), which will cost 2000 pesos. You can use their kitchen if you want to prepare breakfast/lunch/dinner because there are no real places to eat something closeby. TIP: if you want to have lunch or dinner, ask the moto(taxi) for La Fondita, cheap but good food. So if you want to experience some culture and don't want to spend alot of money then this should be...
Read moreThe location os super central for the island, its a moto taxi away from downtown, both buses pass near the posada! Its super clean, very quiet, but what makes it worth the detour is how Nery Taylor helps you have a cultural experience, she ia very knowledgeable of the history of the island, she booked for me a sunrise tour that was out of this world, absolutly worth it! She also invites me to go to local music events and i was blessed to attend the ghospel mass at the oldest baptist church of south america! The singing was inspiring! She is very dedicated and such a sweet person! I absolutly recommend if you want to have a human experience that will aslo blow your eyes away.. just because san andres is...
