My husband and I just returned from visiting Bahia Drake (Drake Bay), Costa Rica. We loved this little place! We stayed at Hakuna Matata Hostel for one night after returning from a 2 night tour in the adjacent Corcovado National Park. I would highly recommend staying at this little place if you are not looking for luxury or a fancy place to stay. We loved it...including the shower that purposefully didn't have hot water and the sink with a shaky faucet. But if you are going to stay in Corcovado National Park or in Drake Bay, you should be prepared for more of a camping experience rather than a luxury vacation. This is what Drake Bay and Corcovado are all about...being in nature and experiencing the culture of the area. Friendly people, hiking in the jungle through mud, humidity, swimming in water holes to wash off the sweat, sand in your shoes, seeing incredible wildlife, taking a taxi that has a rusty roof and a guy who hops on the back to catch a ride, and the kind of life we all wish we had. If you want luxury then you will completely miss the fantastic culture and wonderful people that is Drake Bay. This little hostel doesn't have towels but we had our own from needing them for our stay in Corcovado. We did have air conditioning there. We spent all morning watching wildlife from our balcony including capuchin monkeys, iguanas, scarlet macaws, parrots, vultures, and more. It was amazing!||||||We also booked our guided tour (requirement for entry to Corcovado National Park) through the same people who own this hostel. We did amazing hikes and saw amazing animals with Carlos our tour guide. He was very knowledgable and was fun to be on tour with. There were only 2 other people in the group which made it very personal and fun. He also guided us on a fantastic night tour from the hostel which we were able to book last minute.||||In getting all this organized, Alexa was amazing in helping us and answering all of our questions via email. She was more than happy to answer all of our questions and helped us make sure everything was organized down to the every detail. It...

The staff was very friendly and helpfull. We booked a two night tour at this hostel to sleep at La Sirena and San Pedrillo in Corcovado NP. The guide (David) was excellent! He was very friendly and helpful and was very eager to share his abundant knowledge on animals, plants and the forest as a whole. He really made the trip extrodinary, we will never forget the amazing experience in Corcovado. Upon return we booked an extra night tour and that one was as awesome as it could be. Overall, Hakuna Matata was an excellent place to stay and the tours we did, by means of an excellent guide, were amazing. Worth your...
Read moreWe stayed in the 2 person dorm. It had a fan but was still hot but for the price it was excellent value. Trista who managed our booking and organised our tours was brilliant. English and spanish speaking. Towels provided. ||This place is on the edge of being THE budget backpackers in Drakes Bay (a very expensive place to visit). Some better fans in the room and improved kicthen utensils and common space would make this a top rated hostel. ||We extended our stay because we were offered a discount (plus we made some awesome friends!) so it made...
