Our stay at Montezuma Heights was one of the most amazingly unique experiences of our lives! Before our arrival, Peter & Rocío reached out with some helpful tips and a map to find the property. When we arrived, we were greeted by the hosts themselves and had a lovely conversation, along with a personal tour of the entire property.
The Colibri cottage itself was quaint, rustic and romantic, with an incredible view overlooking the ocean and a sea of lush greenery. It was exactly as pictured and the kitchen was equipped with the basic necessities needed to cook your own meals.
The view from both the balcony and the outdoor shower were amazing - hopefully you are an early riser, because the sunrises you see from the bedroom can’t be beat! Keep in mind that the bedroom is up a ladder, and there is a mosquito net there to cover the bed if you choose to use it, along with a fan to keep you cool while you sleep. It truly is an immersive rustic experience.
The amount of wildlife we encountered during our stay was incredible - we saw a Quati, iguanas, hummingbirds, snakes, and you could hear the howler monkeys calling to each other in the distance. We were even woken up by white-faced monkeys jumping & running across our roof one morning - they were very curious and interactive (not to mention, adorable!).
The shared pool also had a stunning view overlooking the ocean and we spent a good amount of time there.
Pro tip: rent a 4 wheel drive or an SUV so that you can use the dirt path shortcut to get to the property, which will save you about 15 mins and a bumpy ride.
Overall, it was the perfect getaway just outside of town. We love Montezuma and this rental property and we can’t wait...
Read moreStill blissed out from our sweet getaway at this artistic little home, The Mariposa at Montezuma Heights. Peter & Rocio are most gracious — always welcoming your questions and open to communicate with you about your trip. And they’ve created the most adorable little casita, complete with amenities (the most incredibly smooth and delicious coffee, coffeemaker, pots and pans, little fridge, fabulous outdoor shower, patio with stunning views) and artistic touches throughout the property.
A few notes for your stay: Stop by the grocery store on your way. You’re going to want to make some breakfast and sit on the patio watching the rising sun sparkle on the water! The drive up there is an adventure! Steep hills, little bridges and some bumpy dirt roads (we were there in dry season) — but it’s so worth it. Don’t leave any bathing essentials in the outdoor shower. We had a group of white-face capuchin monkeys visit one morning and one of them snagged my husband’s shampoo! It was hysterical! The sunrises are phenomenal! And the howler monkeys make sure you’re up for them. ; ) The iguanas like to sunbathe with you. They’re fun to watch slithering around the jungle floor or up in the trees. The town of Montezuma is a fair walk and steep, so having a car was nice. If you get a chance to do the bioluminescence kayak tour, do it! It’s magic!
If you want a place away from the hustle and bustle, where you can relax and overlook the ocean, and experience...
Read moreWow. I have no words to describe just how wonderful our stay here was, but I will try! We stayed in Gekko cabin, the smallest of their units. At $85 a night, you absolutely cannot beat this place. The views are spectacular and there is an abundance of outdoor space that allows you to enjoy the nature surrounding the house. ||We had no trouble getting to Montezuma Heights with our 4x4. ||The views are out of this world. I cannot believe a place like this exists and is so affordable. We loved having our own private balcony/porch and also having the common pool area and other eating areas. The kitchen was perfectly fine, I cooked about 6 meals in there with no issue and we so loved being able to cook for ourselves in paradise. We enjoyed our meals on the balcony with howler monkeys in the background and pizotes running by. It was a dream! ||We were worried this place might be too far from town but it’s only a 10 minute drive from Montezuma where there are plenty of restaurants and nice beaches. We loved the waterfalls nearby and were very grateful to the owners, who could not have been more thoughtful or helpful. ||We can’t wait to come back. Next time we will probably stay in the larger cabin which has a full kitchen and a bit more space, but for us this time, the gekko cabin was perfect. We can’t wait to come back with a group and stay in the larger house or perhaps just move into the upstairs cabin and never leave! Seriously. This place...
