The place itself is very atmospheric and beautiful. However, unfortunately, it was one place in Costa Rica where we felt not very comfortable and with unpleasant vibes. The hostess at the front was very welcoming and invited us to dine with them after our hike to Montezuma Waterfall. And that's what we did. When we came in, the lady waitress wanted to seat us on the bar like table facing the jungle. Though, it is beautiful spot, but not reasonable for group of 5 friends, who want to face each other and have social interactions. So, we kindly asked if we can have one of the regular tables, and starting from that moment, our lady waitress has started showing obvious displeasure with us, maybe, because of spending extra time on us. But that was fine. We all have bad and good days. So, we were seated and started looking at the menu. It was a bit pricey, like $10-$15 per really small portion (as we discovered later), compared to all the places around the Costa Rica, and we've been to a lot of places. But we stayed, as we were very hungry. Anyways, our lady waitress has helped us to choose something from the menu and dissappeared for more than an hour and a half, except bringing the beer at the beginning. Our dishes weren't given at the same time, they were just starting to come after hour and a half. We were one of the 1st people who came there, but after that much time it was full and busy. As I understood, the preference was given to guests of their hotel, both with good spots and service. After that we found our lady waitress coming out of the kitchen and asked for 3 separate bills, it was declined in a hurry by telling that it doesn't work like that in their restaurant and went for other tasks. As to compare, we were in the local bar in a really small village, where we didn't expect anything extra. However, we have gotten our separate bills, as there is nothing really difficult to it. It wasn't the issue even with the decline in our request, but how arrogantly this information was given to us. It think we were forgotten again and were waiting for another 40 minutes. After our lady waitress came to us with one bill, we asked for separate ones again as it is hard for a group of people to manage money in a trip that way. There was rudeness again coming towards us, and than the complaints from one of our friends were coming out, which we are sorry for, but we were stuck in that place for more than we expected, and our plans for that evening were lost. Again, I understand that there are good and bad days, but basic professionalism and politeness is a reasonable request from a restaurant of that price range. Hopefully, this information will...
Read moreMy mom and I spent two nights here in two different rooms. They were both clean and pleasantly decorated. One of the rooms had a balcony and in the morning we watched white-faced monkeys play on top of the buttefly garden. The restaurant is delicious and the meal I had there was one of the best I had in all of Costa Rica. Breakfast was rice, fruit, milk and juice. What made this place SO great is that one of the days we were supposed to go snorkeling. We woke up to find that our rental car had a flat tire. The girl working the front desk and restaurant called us a taxi and also took all of our rental car information. While we were snorkeling that day, she called the company and had a representative come out to change our tires. She completely turned what could have been a disaster and lost day of vacation into a solved situation. The butterfly gardens are beautiful. I HIGHTLY recommend this place in all...
Read moreWe stayed 3 nights with our 3-year-old. The staff was kind, and helpful (even gave us a lift up and down the hill a couple of times when they were headed that way). The rooms are beautifully decorated and very clean (and have AC, which is a treat in CR!). Lots of white-face & howler monkeys pass through the yard. We visited the Butterfly Gardens a few times a day with our daughter and never got tired of it. We ate in the restaurant a lot because the town is a bit of a hike, but we didn't mind because, the restaurant Clandestina, was delicious and the jungle setting is gorgeous. The in-house brews were excellent. You can hike to both entrances of the waterfalls, canapy tours, the beach, the bus stop for a visit to Cabuya or Cabo Blanco, and the boat for Tortuga Island. There's a lot to do, especially for families. Just be prepared to get physical with the hill. But, the place is worth the...
