It's very sad to write this review, because the hotel is so awesome and cool, and the owner is wonderful, but I feel I need to warn fellow travelers, because I would have liked to be warned before going here. Unfortunately, this place is really dangerous right now.
In the middle of the night, while we were sleeping, someone BROKE INTO OUR TENT AND TOOK SOME OF OUR BELONGINGS. Imagining that someone was able to open our tent and walked around inside our tent while we were sleeping is just too scary and disturbing. So many things could have happened.... Thanks God it was just a robbery and they only took my cellphone and a pair of sunglasses. I left the phone next to me in the bed charging and the thief took it, our wallets were in the safe so they were not stolen. But my girlfriend and I were there, sleeping when the robbery happened, it's crazy that so many things could have gone wrong with this thief breaking into our tent in the middle of the night.
There was another guest (father and child) in the hotel that night and they experienced the same horrible situation, they got robbed by someone who entered their tent while they were sleeping. By they way they did the robbery (they covered the external light of the tent with one of our towels for example), it's clear that the thief is very familiar with the hotel and the tents. Moreover, we still can't understand how we didn't notice the thief when he entered and walked around our tent, we are not heavy sleepers, we should had heard him. And the other guest in the other tent didn't notice as well, scary!
The owner was very shocked and nervous about this. She was very generous by refunding our money for the night already paid, and there's not really much she could do. It's very sad to see her having to deal with this insecurity.
The hotel is beautiful, the tents are amazing, everything is so clean and nice, breakfast is great, but, unfortunately, I highly recommend you not to come here until the safety issue is resolved, because this is extremely dangerous.
We went to the OIJ (national criminal department) to report the robbery and they told us they have received lately several claims from victims in this hotel, so is something that it's going on frequently. So sad, but seriously dangerous and shocking.
I hope they are able to resolve the situation soon and find...
Read moreThe hospitality here was great, we were greeted by Karina who was super friendly and helpful and gave us a tour of the place! We had breakfast each morning here for 6,000 colones or $10 USD we had The Sweet and The Vegetarian options and it came with juice, fruit and coffee! There are sanitizer stations outside the community kitchen area and everything was open air so it felt super safe but if you were in close proximity you could put a mask on. All the staff wore masks while cooking and serving us! The staff spoke mostly Spanish, but we managed to get by with mostly English and little Spanish, it was no problem! They did our laundry before we left for $10 which was really nice! They had bikes we could use and we rode bikes to the beach and did a surf lesson from Mojo surf and rented boards from Frijoles! We ate lunch at Pots and Bowls, got dinner at Los Olas which was a brewery in town and then drove into Tamarindo for a night for dinner! Tamarindo was super busy beach town, felt like a spring break location- about 20-30 minute drive away! Playa Grande is a sleepy town, not a town full of night action but perfect for a couple nights and super calm beach for surfing or doing yoga! At the bungalow we hung out at the pool for a morning after breakfast which was perfect temperature and great weather for us to lounge around at. Our casita had an outdoor shower- perfect for washing off after a beach day, a safe in the room to store some valuables, an outdoor living room, hammock and a large bed, I think it was a king size. There was electricity, lights and a ceiling fan! The landscaping was beautiful, lots of plants and appealing to the eye! Outdoor fire pit and howler monkeys near by, just go! You’ll love this little...
Read moreThis is a wonderful place to stay while enjoying Playa Grande and the surrounding area. We spent a week here, definitely recommend staying more than a couple of nights to get a feel for the place and the community. The glamping tents are set up so thoughtfully - private baths, outdoor showers, large roofs overhang the decks so you are protected from the rain and sun. Fans help keep you cool, the beds are very comfortable, the palapa dining room/family room and pool area is great for lounging around and reading. The landscaping and layout is awesome, and howler monkeys still sleep in the trees nearby. We walked every day to the beaches and restaurants - 10 minutes to some good local spots, 20 or so to Playa Grande which is amazing! It hasn't yet been overwhelmed by resorts and developments since it is bordered by a national park to protect the turtles that nest along the beach. You can walk miles seeing only occasional surfers and sunbathers - great surf, btw. Sophie and Antoine were helpful arranging excursions, transport, etc. Very hands on and welcoming! Breakfast is a little extra every day, but worth it for good coffee, fresh fruit, and local fare. Highly recommend...
