Not sure why 1 star is the lowest rating we can give. So here’s one star that this place absolutely does not deserve.
We stopped by for coffee & a snack with my husband and young son. We wanted something sweet, so we ordered French toast. It came out one (end piece) of French toast, and something else that was like a pancake? When I pointed it out to the server that this not only wasn’t a piece of French toast, it wasnt even cooked throughout and was raw in the middle. A man (the owner) sitting at the only other table in the restaurant, overheard and pointed out that they’ve been “so busy” the last few days that they ran out of bread. Okay, well then, you should let us know that you’re out of this item. Not try to serve something completely different. How deceitful.
The server herself was extremely friendly. And suggested the waffles, that were fine, my 18 month old son enjoyed them.
When we went to pay, each item on the receipt was $1 more than on the menu! Cappuccino on the menu $3, fruit juices on the menu, $3. And once the bill came, they were $4 each… again- how deceitful. The owner was now gone and it was just the server trying to figure out why this was (after I pointed it out). The server kindly suggested removing the service fee to make the bill lower, I told it was fine and since we were staying down the road we would most likely be back and will speak to the owner then.
I came back with my son the next day to have waffles for breakfast. The owner was there, and I told him about the discrepancy between his menu prices and the bill. And his response? “We just started serving breakfast about a week ago, so there’s a few things to iron out”. I was shocked. This was his customer service. On an already returning customer!!
I will never ever come back here. And I urge you not to either. Someone who runs an establishment with such deceit, and unapologetically, is definitely not worthy of your money. I normally only leave good reviews as I like to boost the exceptional experiences that we have. Im also a give believer in customer service, anything that goes wrong, can definitely be fixed in the way the management handles the situation. Unfortunately this place is more than worthy of this review.
A tip to the owner- if you have a discrepancy on the bill vs the menu that YOU have made. Then the difference should be on you. Suck up the $3 and leave your customer happy. Can’t afford to give back the $3? Then offer the customer a free coffee, which would cost you 10 cents. And show that you actually care to keep...
Read moreAbsolutely the worst experience I have had in a year of living in Costa Rica. My fiancé and I came here for our anniversary for dinner.. Within the first 5 minutes after ordering, someone near us starting smoking a cigarette in the restaurant. The entire time we were there trying to eat our food someone was smoking a cigarette, at one point there were 5 people smoking cigarettes at the same time. At this point I went to the manager and spoke to him, he said he would ask everyone to stop, which he didn’t. Our whole dinner was ruined. When we went to pay the manager didn’t try to do anything, or do some small gesture to apologize, he didn’t even address it really, it was awkward. So we paid then I said that our night was ruined and he said that’s it poker night and this only happens on poker night (letting people smoke cigarettes in the restaurant). So I told him that he should inform the customers that they are allowing people to smoke inside the restaurant so they can choose if they want to eat there or not. And then he told me he can’t because they are just trying to survive the rainy season. This is not a tico owned restaurant (owned by a local), this is a foreign owned restaurant. If you have enough money to have a Foreign investment, then I think you can afford to be honest to your customers. The least he could have done was offer to not have to pay the bill, or taken something off of it. I told him this and he said they could afford it. I have lived in Costa Rica for about a year and have been to many restaurants, I have never experience people smoking in the restaurant. Also the food was bland. And they didn’t even bring us water. All in all, don’t waste your time,...
Read moreStopped in twice during our trip to the Westin Playa Conchal last week. Met the Proprietor of the pub, Jake. Super friendly guy that enjoys visiting with his customers about BBQ, Florida, Surfing, Good Beer, his cat and the awesome country of Costa Rica! We had the Hefeweizen and the Amber. The aluminum supply chain shortage forced the Amber to be canned in a Stout can but that just adds to the Pura Vida experience. Both the beers were top notch and rival anything I’ve had in the states. Unfortunately we didn’t get to check out the BBQ but since I’m a BBQ guy (gotta few championship banners of my own) I can tell that Jake knows what he’s doing and the BBQ would be fantastic. This place is a hidden gem that will blow up some day as it is right in the middle of a great run of restaurants in Brasilito (Cameron Dorado, Patagonia Del Mar, Papaya, Soda Brasilito) and directly across from the beach. Loved Los Olas...
