The restaurant embraces a "destructive kitchen" concept, which means they creatively utilize ingredients in unexpected ways, transforming traditional dishes into extraordinary culinary adventures.

From the moment you step inside, you're greeted with a vibrant atmosphere that matches the bold flavors on the menu. This is hands down the best restaurant in the Playa Grande area. The dishes are next level, so flavorful - it's a complete sensory experience from start to finish. It doesn't matter if you're a vegetarian or not, if you have an appreciation for creativity and flavors that burst your tastebuds - don't miss out on this experience. If you're going, do yourself a favor and order the entire menu, which changes each week (love this concept) and really immerse yourself into the creativity and soul this team pours into their food. It's beyond worth it. I can't wait to be back. On top of the cuisine and great atmosphere, they have a great selection of organic wines and I'm dying to return to try out the kimchi martini. Bravo Santo Bandido team ❤️ You've created something special. We need more establishments like this everywhere in the world. People dedicated to their craft and truly creating. "Learn the rules like a pro, so you can break them...

A true culinary revolution.

Santo Bandido is a dining experience like no other. In a tourism-catered restaurant industry, Santo Bandido dares to be different, offering weekly menu changes and an elevated take on authentic Costa Rican cuisine. Produce is sourced locally and selected on a seasonal basis, the plates and dishes are hand-crafted by local artisans using traditional clay materials, and no food gets wasted. Santo Bandido is a testament to values-driven processes: one that is fueled by a genuine connection to culture and conscious consumption. The result? Thoughtful, mouth-watering, and creative plates paired with incredible organic wines. Santo Bandido is a must for those looking for a true culinary experience in...

Santo Bandido in Playa Grande, Costa Rica, is an absolute must-visit! I was lucky enough to dine here twice because it was just that good. The fresh, flavorful menu—complete with delicious vegan options—left my taste buds craving more. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared, bursting with local ingredients and creative flair. And the drinks? Simply amazing! Each cocktail was perfectly crafted to complement the menu, making the entire dining experience even more unforgettable. The atmosphere is vibrant yet relaxed, the service is top-notch, and the overall vibe is exactly what you’d want in a beachside culinary gem. If you’re in Playa Grande, do yourself a favor and eat here—you won’t regret it!

This is an absolute must to visit. We’re by no way vegetarians and if you’d just scanned the menu you might say, “nah, not for me”. I implore you to go in and try their food and wine. Amazing organic wines you wouldn’t normally find that are so well sourced and matched. Great cocktails. And the chef is a genius - I have no idea how he does it but the flavors and textures are simply brilliant. Put this place in LA, London or some other major city and you’d have a waiting list of 3 months to get in. We loved it so much we came twice. It’s tapas style so small plates to share. The menu changes weekly, but my favorites this week were the mushroom croquette, the beet salad and the raviolo.

This is such a special spot! Tucked away in a lush little patch of jungle, this is an entirely outdoor vegetarian restaurant. Our host was friendly, accommodating, and made us feel special. The wines paired perfectly with the food. The food is all local and seasonal and the menu and wines change weekly. With the moto “normal is boring”, these guys do things differently! Refreshing and creative cuisine. They do a lot of preserving and fermenting in house. The food was good. The food didn’t blow my mind as much as the atmosphere and the hospitality did, but still a really nice local dinner. Oh and fun loud music played for our large group too, so it felt like a party!
