We stayed Mar 13 to Mar 18 2024. It is the dry season and in our opinion the best time although it is in the high 90s, there is little to no humidity and the entire time we were there, it didn't rain one time. Perfect beach weather. The rooms were cleaned every day and the mini bar stocked. We stayed in a king bed room and it was perfect for 2. The pools have bars, obviously and they were nice and clean. Some leaves got in but they cleaned it every morning and throughout the day they used nets to clean it. They have towels at your service, water and coffee anytime you want it and for the most part, really do cater to your needs. TIPS: Bring 2 sunscreens or more depending on the length of your stay in your checked bag or pay $46.99 from the gift shops for one. Bring OFF or some type of bug repellant in your checked bag or pay $26.99 at the gift shop. We brought our own sunscreen but used it all and needed more. We did not, however, need the bug spray. When you walk to the beach, yes there are locals selling everything from clothing to massages. Tell them no thank you and they leave you alone for the most part. You may get some stragglers but they won't hound you to death. There are beach chairs and umbrellas for you free. All you have to do is ask when you approach the entrance to the beach. (do not climb over the 3 foot rock wall) They will get what you need and carry it for you and set it up. We did tip them every time. We went out on the jet skis they offered at the beach entrance. For 2 skis it was $230 for an hour and it was worth it. They wear blue Google polos with Travel Advisor advertisements and they were super nice. They are trustworthy, at least to us. Reserve restaurants immediately. You may get in but if you don't, the Mitra Market is absolutely fantastic! Just go! And when you go in there, walk all around so you know the options. They are unlimited but still, get a quick tour of Mitra Market and then you'll know! Breakfast also! You can hike the trails there also. HOWEVER, I strongly advise that you NOT do this in these months. We did and though we went early in the morning, the heat caught up to us so quickly, we had to call a concierge to come get us. It was total heat exhaustion and not a good choice. Even early morning it was in the high 90s. DO NOT DO IT! The gift shops are wonderful and very enticing. But, it's just like an airport where you pay twice as much. Some of the items the beach locals sell you are the EXACT same items in the gift shops. I don't know the prices of either as we did not buy any gifts other than tshirts, hats and keychains. Honestly, the locals may be cheaper than the gift shops. Such as a coffee cup, a beach cover up or even a handbag. I’m not sure. We didn't buy those things. MONKEYS!! Yes, there are monkeys on the resort as well as Iguanas and other free animals. They are not trained and yes, they are wild. Don't leave anything on your balcony, they will take it. Look at the TV home page in your room. It may get on your nerves but there is a ton of info on it. I cannot complain about the food at all. The Bamboo is incredible. If you can get in, go! Make a reservation. Even the room service food was so good. I am addicted to grilled chicken and theirs was just awesome! Some people complain in the reviews but I honestly can't figure out why. This is a huge resort and I am sure you won't always get what you think you are ordering but this is gourmet food and was hot every time. Just try different things, you will love it. If you like iced coffee or if you want something different from one of the restaurants, there are 2 markets on the resort that sell iced coffees. You do have to pay for those as they are not included in the room package. Please remember, the staff are people too. They may not be up to your standards and you may think they are beneath you but they are not. They will talk to you and are kind and passionate in doing so! Please treat people with respect. They are human just like you and you are not above anybody.

We were lucky to visit the Westin Costa Rica for the ABC Customer Trip and had an amazing time. We have been to several beautiful locations with ABC before, but this property was really special with the jungle like landscaping and wild animals (monkeys, iguanas, birds) everywhere. BUT it was the authentic, friendly, amazing staff that made my trip. Their whole goal was to make sure we had a memorable and enjoyable experience. John at the CLUB pool was my favorite. He went out of his way everyday to make us feel like VIPS. Brian at the swim up bar always had a smile and his adorable wife Georgina made sure all our requests were met. I highly recommend staying in one of the Tower buildings because you get your own Concierge ,the pool is cleaner and great for relaxing. Plus they have a great restaurant called Faisanela overlooking the pool with delicious foods. The Quinoa Fruit bowl along, Mango Juice and beans and rice were my morning favorites. Leonal, Ajanzo and Gabriel greeted us each morning and aimed to please. You can totally tell they all love their jobs. Plus they did a great job waving away the birds that were trying to steal our food. We thought it was fun until a hawk showed up! If you stay in the towers ask for Tower 2 third floor room closest to the lobby. The tree outside the balcony is where the monkeys like to come every other day. At 4 pm we sat on our lobby with a glass of wine and watched the monkeys for an hour. Definity a once in a lifetime experience for us. We had Pablo and Nelson were our wonderful concierges inTower 2 Be sure to order the brick oven pizza at Spirula, the Italian Restaurant for lunch; the Lobster cracker appetizer and Sea Bass was great at Mangler Seafood Rest; Bamboo has very tasty chow mein and pot stickers; Mitra Market is the main cafeteria style restaurant with everything you can imagine. Try the slushy non-alcoholic Mojito with breakfast- very refreshing. I had a massage at the W SPA with Vanessa. Probably the best neck and foot massage I have ever had. Then I went to the Westin Spa and had Andrea for a body scrub. She was great too. I really liked the amenities at the Westin spa a bit better. They just need to add some healthy snacks or a juice bar so you can hang out there longer. My husband played GOLF and really liked the course. He recommends going out early, drink lots of water because it gets very hot and humid. Many people walked off after 12 holes. Beware of the ladies on the BEACH giving massages for $40. They are not trained, do not speak the language and not sure who is really getting the $. Some of our folks enjoyed the massages, but I prefer a trained professional at the Westin. Plus I didn't like the atmosphere at the beach, People yelling at you to buy stuff and to get a massage. The Westin needs to hire more people to set up chairs and umbrellas because they only had one young man who didn't; speak English and there was never enough umbrellas. The Westin has a beautiful beach but we preferred the Club Pool because we didn't want to get harassed or burned by the hot sun. I HIGHLY recommend staying here. Great location, close to local areas for outside dinners and shopping, delicious food and excellent service. Be sure to get off property and see the REAL Costa Rica. All the excursions are long drives because Westin is on the beach and all the attractions are a bit of a drive. BUT I recommend you go see the countryside and meet the locals. We loved the trip to Monteverde for the cloud forest, coffee, sugar care and cocoa farm, plus a great Snorkeling time, Actually swam in a huge pool of fish. Felt like I was in an aquarium. Whatever you do, you will have a memorable time. At the Westin, everything is included, but I recommend bringing some tip money because they wonderful people work so hard and deserve it!

Nowhere to go but up, checked in today and zero reservations available in any of the restaurants, all prime dining hours not available for the next 4 days at any restaurant, some restaurants not available to us at all during our stay, Disappointing beginning when you can’t get a sit down meal your first night at an all inclusive, what are we paying for? Day 2 Edit. the buffet was open last night though the app stated it was closed so we found an Ok dinner. After being told it didn’t exist we finally located self serve ice and water filler but not together.. We have been able to order ice and extra water bottles to our room. No latte type drinks to be found except for extra pay at the coffee shop so we purchased two for $15 with almond milk and lactose free milk. There is a gas station type coffee/latte dispenser at the buffet but I cannot have lactose. One suggestion to anyone considering coming would be to bring a night light and extension cord. There are two steps down from the bed to the bathroom area and I almost fell down them last night in the dark, I think the set up is pretty hazardous to anyone who might be even slightly disoriented in a new place during a nighttime potty trip. Adding a photo of the stairs from the bedroom and from the bathroom area. A Lamp appeared as shown in the bedroom next to the stairs today, but we sure will not sleep with that bright light on all night, lol. we asked if perhaps they might have a nightlight? A contact from westin reached out to see if they could assist with reservations, and were able to make a reservation for 1 night so that now we are not repeating restaurants. Bumping my review to a 3 probably just for this, though all the people have been pleasant, the helpfulness has been more questionable. We are two couples who each booked jr suites for approx $1000/night and discovered today that we are not able to access the adults only pool or lounge area. Upon another look we apparently have misread the fine print there we thought we did have access to this area. “open exclusively to guests staying in our Westin Club Rooms and Suites”. I will post a screen shot of where our room is listed under the “suites” tab on their website. The wording should be adjusted to guests staying in our westin club rooms and westin club suites or something else more clear. The beach is a disappointment as lounge chairs are lined up like sardines with minimal shade and no bar or food service. As many others have mentioned you must also walk through a lot of aggressive vendors to get from the property to the beach. We had a hard time finding two lounge chairs anywhere shaded around the pool at 3 pm. A common issue at all inclusive hotels that the best ones solve by removing towels and belongings after 60 mins of inactivity. We’ve now been in our lounge chairs for 2 hours where no one has approached us except to try to move our umbrella to “unshade” us. Bottom line so far is that we feel a bit nickel and dimed here for an all inclusive, it doesn’t feel so. Day 3, I would like to point out that housekeeping replenished those things we requested did the minibar filler. I have had some very nice interactions with all the wait staff and had some great drinks mixed and served to us by Manuel at the reception bar and Elvis in the Buffet Bar. zi really appreciate a bartender I can ask for a random drink with x or y ingredients but not too sweet and get something different and tasty and even beautiful every time. They seem to frown upon carrying glass around the grounds which I completely understand but any plastic cups are a leap above the paper cups provided for mixed drinks at sone of the bars.

I cannot say enough good things about this resort. We checked in with Estefany once we arrived and she immediately set the bar for superior top tier service. She was an absolute delight to be around and the interactions with her started off our introduction to the resort in the best way possible. Once the room was ready, we were greeted WARMLY by Pablo and Nelson who were the concierges for Tower 2 which is where we were staying. Let me tell you, the warm and fuzzy feeling we got from Pablo and Nelson could not be faked nor matched. Every single time we encountered Pablo or Nelson; they said both of our names (that is huge) and never failed to ask if we needed anything at all. The club pool was very nice, and it is separate from the family area. It is spacious. The service at the club swim up bar was outstanding and we would like to give a HUGE shout out to Bryan and Diego at that bar. Thank you for making our days WONDERFUL!! We THOROUGHLY enjoyed breakfast at Faisanella where we were greeted with OPEN arms by Dyanna and Rebeca. These women were FANTASTIC and provided warm sincere service with a smile. Again, they both remembered our names and were an absolute JOY to encounter. I am STILL smiling thinking about those 2 ladies. They even sang happy birthday to my girl. John Ruiz provided EXEMPLARY service at the Club pool. It was such a delight to see him daily. Always with a huge smile on and very eager to help. They also have a grill at the club Pool and the guy there was AWESOME as well. Always preparing awesome meals on the grill. Spirula is the Italian restaurant. We enjoyed EVERYTHING we ate as well as the TOP TIER service from Laura and Beddy!! Laura surprised us and had the restaurant sing Happy Birthday to my daughter which was such a special touch that it left me with a tear in my eye. Thank you, Laura!! We LOVE you!! Manglar the seafood restaurant was amazing also. We enjoyed everything we ate there as well, and the service was amazing. La Sabana, the steakhouse was TOP TIER!! Caracola serves local and international delights, and the menu is VERY extensive. We tried a variety of items with ALL the selections coming out perfect. So much to choose from in such a nice atmosphere. We were just delighted. I will say that we never did make it to Bamboo. The line was pretty crazy all night and although there were only 2 of us, we still had to wait behind much larger parties which didn't seem fair, so we chose to not wait. The fruit at the Mitra Market was the very BEST fruit I have ever had in my entire life. I will say that. The main bar by the Mitra Market was our FAVORITE bar!! HUGE shoutout to Bryan who also remembered our names every night AND remembered our drink of choice. We LOVE you, Bryan!! Thank you for always keeping us hydrated after the shots!! We did the coffee tasting with Flor and Eric which is exclusive to Westin Club guests. The class was SO informative, and it was a delight to attend. Thank you, FLOR and ERIC and HUGE shout, out to Eric for dancing with my daughter that evening. You made her night!! We LOVE you Eric and we definitely took coffee home. We also did the on-property hike with Eduardo which was also exclusive to Westin club guests. Eduardo was a DELIGHT!! He was extremely knowledgeable and taught us a great deal on our hike. He kept us laughing while keeping us on our toes for the extensive hike. Thank you, Eduardo, for teaching us new things!!! We were delighted to see the various wildlife which included Howler Monkeys (thanks Eduardo), both male and female Iguanas (thanks Eduardo) and various birds. One afternoon, we ran into Pablo, and he asked how he could help. We told him we were desperate to see the monkeys. Well, Pablo took us around until we found them. After that, we never stopped seeing them. We love you Pablo and we thank you SO much!! This resort is AMAZING!! We never had a bad meal or bad service and EVERYONE remembered our names which is HUGE!! We CAN'T WAIT TO COME BACK!!! The service here was the BEST we have ever HAD!!! In closing, THANK YOU...

LONG POST WARNING. So I want to start off by saying this was our honey moon trip and we started our vacation in La Fortuna at Nayara Springs and Gardens (which is a true example of a 5 star resort). Once we got to the resort we immediately realized that this was not going to be the same experience we had at our first resort. At first we thought we just had high expectations from our last resort and couldn’t compare the two. But once talking to other travelers that spent their trips elsewhere before coming to the Westin, we realized we weren’t the only ones. Here are some of my complaints: The food. Now I know an all inclusive is not fine dining and is more of a “cruise like” vibe but I’ve had cruise food before and it did not taste like this. Our first night we got room service because we came in later in the afternoon and wanted to relax in the room. We ordered onion rings and a Caesar salad and this took over an hour to be delivered to our room (on the phone they state 45 min). We had to call to make sure we were still getting food. On the second day we went to the pool food bar. I think it was called el ranchito. We each got a burger w/ fries and the burger was not even cooked, still frozen. Mitra Market was decent but we had to eat there for breakfast, lunch and dinner every. Single. Day. The day we got to the resort and downloaded the resort app every other restaurant was booked our entire trip which was disappointing and unbelievable. The room. Immediately when we entered the room there was a distinct odor. Smelt like wet clothes were in the room and had been left there for weeks. Our room also did not get cold the entire trip. It honestly felt like I was sleeping on damp sheets and pillow cases. Golf carts. When you call to get a golf cart sent to the room they state it can take anywheres from 5-20 min which isn’t bad, but the kicker is the fact that you have to be waiting outside on the sidewalk for the golf cart to pick you up. They do not come to the door to let you know that they are there, so if you are not outside when they decide to pass by you are walking. We didn’t mind walking but There were several EMPTY golf carts that passed us by while walking and did not even stop to ask if we needed a ride. Not one single person. Lastly, the service and management. The staff was definitely overburdened and probably not tipped enough. When we would call with questions we were on the phone for 30-45 minutes at a time being transferred to several different people because no one seemed to have the answer. They kept saying “let me talk to my supervisor” instead of just letting us speak with this so called supervisor. Then today right before check out there is an option on the TV to check the charges made to the room. We knew that we paid cash for everything and didn’t charge one single thing to the room. When we looked just to make sure, they ended up charging us for an entire round of 18 hole golf (yes we played 9 holes because of the rain but this was paid in advanced through our travel agency). When we went to front desk to resolve issue and check out, the lady had no answers for us. They would not let us leave the resort without paying the fee which was $415. We ended up paying it so that we could leave and not miss our flight home. I emailed our travel agent on the way home and she stated that the golf was already paid for and she would get it resolved. My husband called the resort to make sure they got in touch with our agency and again we stayed on the phone with them for 40 min being transferred several different times. FINALLY we talked to someone who knew what they were talking about and confirmed that we would be receiving this refund. It takes 7-10 business days so fingers crossed we actually receive this refund as $415 is a big purchase for something we had already paid for. The only reason I am giving this resort 2 stars is because some of the staff were very friendly and accommodating and views of beach were great. Honestly I’m just happy we had excursions to get off...

They are human just like you and you are not...
